Madrid by train.

Have any of you intrepid travellers tried a weekend jaunt to Madrid by train yet ?
Basically, I want to travel from Condado on a Friday and return on a Sunday in July next year. Can only find out so much by looking at RENFE web site (and others) in the way of a timetable & ticket costs, as it seems as if you are looking more than 60 days in future the search will not return any results. Can I get a train to Madrid on a Friday and back on a Sunday ?

Hi Will - Tom C here. Steve and I just travelled to Barcelona last week and went from Alhama de Murcia direct to Barca without changing. But reckon the best way to Madrid will be change at Alicante and high speed from there to Madrid. We booked on line but only 2 weeks ahead. Can't imagine it will ever be fully booked up so long as book perhaps just that 60 days ahead that Renfe publish.

Thats very interesting didn't know you go travel direct to Barca . can you tell me how much the return train ticket was ?

Prices vary Dave but we bought tickets the week before and paid about 55 euros return, which was a discounted deal but these appear regularly I understand.
