Hi
Thought this might be worth a thread of its own, so we can update as we visit. We are going out on 24th April for a week and would be very glad to hear of any restaurant recommendations from those of you who have visited more recently than us - we were last over there in Nov 05, so I am sure things have changed quite a bit since then! Looking forward to your thoughts.

Hi there, We were in Mazarron mid March. Although not Spanish we popped into a chinese restaurant!! and it was excellent, something different.
Wok Hong Kong, can't describe the exact location but more or less opposite the New Atlantia offices on the main road through the port. New owners and totally re furbished, very pleasant surroundings.
Buffett so try lots of things, the chef cooks to order as you take your selection to him. The waiter is actually Malaysian, employed for his English and is very very helpful. We went on a Monday evening and so it was quiet and so the waiter had plenty of time to talk and advise on various dishes.
Regards
Mike

Hiya Leigh,
Good idea to start a thread for local restaurants, we are going out on the 3rd-10th May & we will be going to La Chara which is in Isla Plana itself, it's very 'Spanish' with an extensive menu at good value prices.
We went on a Friday ( we were told that it's advisable to book Friday & Saturday eve ) we then went on to the social club a few doors away & had a really good evening.
It would be good to hear from anybody else that is out taking advantage of the Bank holiday and going to see the development and I will keep you posted on any new eating hotspots when we return.

P.S. the brother of the guy that owns La Chara has a cafe next door that has a good 'menu of the day' for about 8 Euros which includes wine should you decide to have some lunch after visiting the site as it is right in the centre of the villlage.
Hope that you get good weather, have a great time.
Sharon.

Hi All
We just returned from a week in Isla Plana and La Azohia - not much open at this time of year - if they were open at lunch time they were closed in the evening! We tried both La Chara and Juan Chara next door to each other in Isla Plana and both were good value and lots of choice. 18 euros per person including wine for evening meal in La Chara and 10 euros for menu del dia in Juan Chara. Pizza very good at Palenque in Puerta de Mazarron located not far from Atlantia offices up the road and to the right a bit. Luis for tapas in Mazarron near the market was good. The Wok Hong Kong was recommended in Puerto de Mazarron but we did not get chance to try that. Lovely menu del dia at the monastery of Santa Eulelia near Aledo in the Espuna National Park - beautiful gardens. In Cartagena - which is only 30 minutes from Isla Plana, there' s nice tapas just along from the newly restored town hall. Happy eating !

Great stuff everyone, thanks! We are off in a few hours time and back on the 1st May, so will hopefully be able to add some comments before Bank Holiday people go out. I am really pleased with the response, it's going to benefit all of us and will be useful to keep up-to-date for files to leave for our tenants (for those of use who intend to rent). This is the stuff of really good travel guides (I do edit one or two travel books, so I'm a bit addicted!). Great to hear about walks and places to visit too, this could build into a really nice resource.
Last-minute packing..................

Hi All!
We have just returned from a very sunny Spain, while we were there we met up with our agent, Paul who took us into Cartagena to sort out the N.I.E numbers- it was a very simple process that could be quite the opposite if you dont realise that the sea of people waiting when you arrive are waiting for work permits & have allocated appointment times so you can actually just walk past them into the building.
We stayed at La Cumbre and although we didnt eat in the restaurant we met a couple that had and said that it was nice.
We had lovely tapas at Avenida on the seafront & also had a really nice Paella & good wine at a restaurant called Arco Mediterraneo which is on the road behind the indoor market in Peurto de Mazzaron.
We also went up to the development and fell for the place over again, it has really come along since the last time that we were there, no consolation to those of you that are still behind schedule.
Paul & Mel took us to a lovely Chinese retaurant but I can't remember the name- maybe Paul will put it on the next time he visits this forum.
Bye for now
Sharon

Hi Sharon and everyone else,
Haven't posted for awhile, I've been a very busy boy. Do not know the proper spelling of the Chinese we went to but it something like Fau Du Hau - anyway we all know it locally as the black chinese restaurant opposite Marcelas pizza house as the signage is all black and white.
If you like kebabs, Alhambra 3 by Playa Grande is the best by far, I have tried many in the area.
Speak soon
Paul.
