Flew into Alicante this evening on Norwegian airways. First time on Norwegian and quite liked the experience. Free wifi on board which is great for geeks like me who want to follow the plane's progress in real time. The negative was the flights were late evening. Leaving Manchester at 7:30pm arriving into Alicante around 11pm.

Arriving at Alicante, we had booked the car via Interrent. They have been good in the past but we have recently been using Firefly due to others recommendations and slow service at Interrent. Tonight was no exception. Only one couple in front of us but it took ages as there was only one person there and he was trying to sell the usual insurance etc. I glanced enviously at the Firefly desk which had a reasonable queue but was also reasonably staffed. When it was our turn, we were informed that there would be a 36 euro surcharge as we were picking the car up after 11pm. That would have been OK if there was actually someone to process our check in. At 36 euros, I would have expected to not have a queue to be honest. Next time it is firefly for sure ...

The drive from Alicante was good and it was great to get to Las Terrazas again. As usual, I had left my passport in my bag in the boot. My wife joked they might just let us through as it was so late. No chance! Passport checked, computer check, questions about car, length of stay etc duly completed and we were allowed in.

You might think after the journey, this was the last thing that was needed, but really it was all very reassuring that security standards at Las Terrazas are as good as ever. Stood on the terrace at 3am it is also reassuring to see the security staff doing the rounds in cars and on foot.

Happy to be back in my second home for two weeks of R&R.

Totally agree about the bar John, but even in high season when the resort is busy there doesn't seem to be a lot of people using it. We were last out in July. On a Saturday evening, with entertainment laid on, the square all done up, fountains clean and operational etc there was still only a handful of people in the bar at 8pm.

I suspect the pricing of drinks may be too high for the target market. Perhaps a happy hour might encourage more owners to use the facilities and in turn enable longer opening hours in low season?

I used Internet  2 months out of Alicante, never again we had our full cover insurance, (He had the worst breath I have every smelt) , he said my insurance was no good and was still going to block my credit card for ££££££s he let us use his phone to cancel my insurance and take out his lol. Then the petrol, when we returned the car the guys are in the car park to look at you car and mark off how much fuel you have returned mine was half full, he noted it, and I took a photo, so far not a penny back, I don't know what deal you have with the car petrol but take it back empty if you can.

Hi newworld, my experiences with interrent haven't been so bad compared to Dickmanns

Yes, they block your card for the excess but on return they lift the block. Dickmanns on the other hand actually take the money and don't refund for over a month.

I have never had a problem with Interrent other than slow service. Excess insurance is an extra, you just have to say no.

Having said that, I was really peeved with the 36 euros extra charge for pickup after 11pm which wasn't mentioned at booking. I will take this up with both Interrent and DoYouSpain. Having said that, I don't hold much hope of any refund so wlll probably just go direct to Firefly in future.
