Hi Everyone,
We have booked to come to Spain 3rd June to complete if not already completed by then! We look forward to meeting as many people as possible whilst out there. During our stay we hope to have the locks changed, rejas and mosquitos nets fitted and wondered if this will be feasible? Is there more than one design of the rejas or is everyone having the same? We would like to have this done whilst there but worried about ordering something we have never seen. Does anyone know where we can access an online catalogue that shows the designs or are we being ridiculous? Are the mosquito nets all the same? Should we order the above from the UK for fitting during our 1 week stay?
What absolute musts do we need to bring from the UK on our fisrt visit?
Sorry, should have introduced ourselves properly at the beginning. We are Alyson and John and we have a 6 year old son Joshua and we have purchased 9a as a holiday home.
The site is very useful and any advice, tips or information greatly received.

Hi!
Strongly recommend you use established legally registered companies for mossy screens and rejas. Speedy Fit recommended for Mossy screens - phone number 600 006 032. They fit next day (or day after). GM Fabrications recommended for rejas - Gary on 687 349 307 or workshop 950 452 810. Terry's recent report under 'Grills (wreckers) thread. is for a downstairs apartment. You won't need much for upstairs - someone will advise you.. Ivan and Anne at 21A used GM Fabrications for theirs. Rejas have to be made to measure so you will need to order in advance. Keep to same pattern as the grills already fitted. Quickest and cheapest way for some extra security on the sliding doors is to drill holes angled slightly downwards - at a convenient height one near top and one near bottom to take bolts about 75mm long - just pushed in. Drill with doors shut and stop before you go right though the outside skin!!
Others no doubt will advise you on your other points.
Cheers, Eddie & Su 20B

Hi Alyson, John & Joshua.
If you like it, take Marmite. It's hard to find and expensive to buy there. That's probably not the sort of info you need but I felt quite lost without my mate Marmite.
If you don't manage to do anything else, get your locks changed. Chat to Drew on site or pick up the number for Lee the Locksmith from Dave's service supplier list.
Hope you have a great time in June and manage to paddle in the pool. Perhaps that last part is wishful thinking.

Hi Alyson & John.
What great news on your completion, and almost as exciting, we will be back in Spain on the 7th while you are out. Steve and Lyn in 9b will also be out on the 8th.
What an excuse for a party.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On another note, I have changed all locks, fitted patio locks and new light fittings so if you need help when I am there, just ask. ( I also have a few tools for the jobs)
As to the grilles, it would be good if you used the same person as we have so as they match when looking at the apartments.
The person I used is Fran. I have had the short gate extended, a grille on the kitchen window and a pannel fitted to the side of the front terrace to deter people climbing over from the stairs. He charged 610€ and the work is fantastic.
If you arranged to see him the day you arrived, I am sure he would fit them before you go home as they turn jobs around very quicklly, I suppose to get paid. You only pay when he has finnished.
Best regards and look forward to meeting you all

P.S. Karen and the kids are also out so Joshua will have company.

Drew & Karen - there are sparrows nesting in your boiler ventilation flue outside your kitchen window!!! Please be careful! Hopefully they'll have flown the nest by the time you get back, but the nest will need removing!
We are not out until 21st June, so have a toast to 'absent friends' please!

Well, we finally went to Spain and completed on the 23rd, and stayed in the apartment from then for 4 nights. We have friends in it currently. We did get the licence of habitation from the notary, and we paid BMS 150 euros directly to ensure connection to mains services. Delighted with the apartement, and hopeful the pool will be ready soon.
It was wonderful to finally meet people. Everyone is very f riendly and helpful. Particuar thanks to Rob - your running around for us is much appreciated, and to Judy and Haydn for advice and positive outlook!!!
We will be out 15th July, and frankly, cant wait.
Best wishes,
Linda and Brian

Noel & I are coming out on 2nd, for 12 nights, planning a trip to Ikea (Murcia) on 3rd to get lights etc, as the seem cheaper than the light stores.
See you all soon

There's Vera Luces - just down from Intermarche on the approach to Vera (down from the bullring) - good selection, bit pricey.
Just a word of warning for those going to the Ikea in Murcia for lights - we used Lopez and Vera Luces and had to take three back because we had bought the wrong sort e.g. not enough room for one of the outside lights, and a completely incorrect type for the kitchen. SO be sure that you measure and sort out what you want before you go up to Murcia. Returning to Lopez was really easy and took a couple of minutes - not so easy to go up to Murcia. (If you do have to return to Lopez, don't go right into the shop - see someone at the door or they get a bit agitated.)
Enjoy the shopping!!

Hi Everyone,
We completed back in April and took a ride to Ikea, absolutely brilliant and identical to the UK, even down to the meal balls in the restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway we bought all our light fittings and lamp shades from there. Lamp shades we 3.50 Euros and the light fittings 2 Euros, really lovely, quite trendy and not everyone's taste. But feel free to look at ours in 12A before going. Ikea was really, really easy to find.
Paul my husband fitted them all and said that they were really easy. He's not an electrician but pretty handy (a plumber in case anyone's desperate when we are out there), decided to give it a go and had no problems at all. He said all it is is a live, neutral and earth and very simple to do.
Hope this helps.

I don't think there is anything locally to compete with those prices then!!! Though I don't think Lopez was expensive, couldn't compete with!
We just got Gregerio to put ours up and he did a good job. What are people's feelings about Ramon if I dare ask?
I would be interested to know how many people are paying him extra money.
Best wishes,
Linda

Hi all,
Thanks for the info, I will see most of you at the party, but will hopefully meet all over the coming months. My son has the hump because he is still in school, He cant visit till August.
With regard to Ramon, if the community management company do security you could end up paying twice, I would regard Ramon as a short term security man. As I said before he tried to sell me the lake in february 2005.
Regards
Don

It seems that Saturday will be the best day for a BBQ/party.
Don I will rely on you stealing Haydons BBQ when he is out and we will make the rest up on the day.
If everybody prepares something i'm sure it will all come together, and dont forget a few sangrias' to get us started would be a good idea.
Looking forward to meeting with everybody.
