We are going to let out our apartment (help pay  towards the mortgage) we have already got building content/furniture insurance; the AEA provide the communial insurance the details of which are on their web site which incidently I cannot get logged onto - problems with passwords, this insurance provides cover for the structure of the building and roof and would not appear to cover the individual apartments.

We have been advised to get a policy to cover the actual apartment property as well as its furniture. Is this true and a good idea???  if so any suggestion where we can get insurance cover for the apartment

Derek

Have you checked whether you are insured through your mortage provider?  We were about to take out a policy and were told that the bank had already insured us - buildings and contents for about 20,000 euros contents and this included such events as pipes bursting, flood damage from leaking roof etc.  This is with Banco Andalucia in the port and it's one of their conditions that we are insured with them for the first year at least.  We weren't aware of it until we discussed the terms with them as it was included in our payment calculations.

Regards, Caroline

I also found that the bank I arranged the mortgage with automatically sign you up for the first year for buildings and contents insurance.  I have also been advised that you have to cancel these polices after the first year if you want to  otherwise they are automatically renewed.  Becuase I am renting I have also taken out public liability insurance which costs about £80 for £1m of cover, £100 for £2m or around £125 for £3m.

Hi

We were put in touch with Intasure and have insured our contents with them and this inclused public liability so we are covered if we decide to rent.  Can let anyone have telephone numbers if interested.
