Hi to all in the sun.

If you would like to see your home worth more at the same time enjoy improved transport links to Murcia City and other great Spainish towns then help the people of Sucina  get their railway station re-opened  by sending letters of support to the town mayor and train company. You are only yards away from  a great unique facility so help by writing.

All the best

Woods

Hello everybody,

I think the original idea in this post is very good and I would like to restart the discussion. The question is: where do you start?

My initial thoughts are:

1 has any preliminary work been done so far either by ex-pats or locals

2 does anyone have any documentation on this they could share

3 do we have any information on the procedures by which local and central government progress this sort of thing

4 does anybody on here have any train experience here or in the UK

5 do we know who our local MP is

6 is anyone else interested in pursuing this.

That will do for now. As I say, early days. Look forward to any reaction and maybe develop an action plan from there.

Regards

Noel

The H Riquelme community have a sub-committee headed by Colin Archer currently working on this. Apparently some progress has been made and now its more `when` than `if` it opens.

I have a great old photo of the Riquelme-Sucina station when it was open in the 1970`s on http://www.murciagolf.bravehost.com/OWNERSNEWS.html

I agree with you Woods, it is a very important facility to revive. I would certainly use it for an evening in Murcia city or down to the coast.

Thanks for that Steve. I will try to contact Colin Archer and see if he wants any support at all; even if only moral. That is a good pic you have Steve. I don't think I have ever seen the station and I can't imagine where it actaully is. Have you got a map reference or directions or anything?

Regards

Noel

An update from the H Riquelme community site regarding rail, roads, and airports:-

Sucina Riquelme Station
Working group formed to press RENFE for re-opening with local
residents and current train users helping to define correct contacts
Hacienda Riquelme, Sucina, La Tercia, Peralaja - all interested.

Requires authorisation from Murcia Region Government
We have asked Murcia Region Govt for meeting to put our case for opening.
No response yet so follow-up request sent last week
Station will be unmanned – tickets on train
Will need some work to bring up to standard
Will provide a limited service to Cartegena and Murcia

Feedback from RENFE, if opening authorised, is very positive
No timescales or available date for opening.

ROADS

"Area road plans (view on Resortalia notice-board)
San Javier – Santomera (Murcia) Autovia
Dual Carriageway from AP7 to Murcia
Follows existing MU301 road
Near to Hacienda Riquelme
An Autovia exit 2 km south of Sucina
An Autovia exit just north of Sucina (link to old HR road – new flyover/bridge works)
Expected completion 6 – 9 months in HR area
Completion of full Autovia project in 2010"

Local Projects – Close to HR
Roads running along Peraleja/HR - Work restarted
Delays due to laying Town Gas pipes for resorts
Delays due to Land Ownership disputes
Completion of underpass construction for pipes
Bank Guarantees from PW/PG for completion of build

Road running from HR to Sucina (‘old road’) - Still closed
Leads to new Autovia Sucina exit then to Sucina
Roundabouts/Flyover under construction
Likely not re-opened until Autovia exit complete
Bank Guarantees from PW completion of build
Expected completion 6 -12 months

AIRPORTS

Murcia San Javier Airport
Second runway – due to open March/April 09
Allowing for all day commercial landings
Military will use own runway
Removes 3:00 pm curfew start for commercial landings
Airlines left to alter schedules accordingly

Corvera Murcia Airport
Corvera location plan (view on Resortalia notice-board)
Construction underway in 2008
Privately owned – business & bank consortium – not AENA
First runway expected completed 2010
First Commercial flights expected 2011

But apart from that I don`t know anything.
