Hi all,
I havent posted for quite a while, as I was lucky enough to be able to spend 2 months in my place at dream hills and did not want to come back to the really cold weather here. I took my two dogs over with me, going through the channel tunnel and then drove down through France and Spain. I was really anxious about the journey, but it was really easy and we only needed a one night stop going down.
Coming back was a different story, as neither my friend or I were prepared to drive the route via Paris. As a result it took us a lot longer to drive the distance! Also we had to book a vet to do the necessary treatments with the dogs between 24 and 48 hours before returning to England. What a rip off that was - the equivalent of £100 just to put a worming tablet in their mouth, spray them with frontline and sign their passports!! Anyway it meant that we had to have 2 nights stop overs.
The other drama I had was when I got to the pet passport office in Calais, and scanned my dogs. One of them had an error in the number recorded in the passport, one number had been left out. Fortunately I had taken the blood test results with me which had the correct numbers recorded. They had to ring DEFRA to see if my dog could return to England. The passport and blood test reults had to be faxed to DEFRA and I had a very worrying half hour wait for them to give me a decision! However, fortunately they said yes!!
Dream Hills was wonderful! They have started to lay large pipes down the hill (aka Cardiac hill!) from VIA park 3 and I was told by the lady in the show house, that they were going to be finishing off the bridge over the motorway soon. As mentioned before they are still building behind the show house.
The weather whilst I was there was mixed. There was at least one day of rain nearly every week, but unlike Britain, it was often a beautiful day the next day, so the rain did not get you down! The other days were like our pleasant summer days. The evenings were quite cold and you needed long sleeve tops most nights.
I completed in June and the whole process is not nearly as stressful as I was led to believe!Good luck to all of you completing soon, I hope everthing goes well for you, it is a very exciting time!!
