Funny little story!!!!

We went to visit Jas girl cousins in Murcia. Ja went for a small walk with kids and i was left with his cousins who speak NO ENGLISH!! Feeling rather confident i tried to say this in spanish..........

The other night we had no electricity, Jaime was in England so i called my girlfriend to tell her. It was late at night so she bought me two hot cups of tea, tortilla and some candles. What a nice friend.

she then said in spanish..... something something something La Cama (the bed)? i didnt understand the first bit so took a wild guess and replied........... SI SI

Her face dropped, i thought she might want to scratch my eyes out. Jaime returned a few awkward minutes later!! I asked him to find out what i had said. This is what i infact said........

The other night we had no light, Jaime was in England so i called my boyfriend. It was late in the night so he bought me tea, tortilla and candles. Hes really nice.

She then asked..... did he sleep in your bed? as i hadnt understood i replied.... YES YES

...................whoops. I forgot my feminine and masculines, they are quite important you know   we had a good old chuckle afterwards. Come to think of it i have had a couple of conversations in spanish with the kids teachers and they have looked at me rather oddly, goodness knows what i might have said!!!!

Hi Tina,

I Love that. It reminded me of when Colin told the owner of the DIY shop in the village that we will be back in NINE YEARS instead of the NEW YEAR.

Back to the Spanish Lessons.

Just a small correction, if I may, on the same theme ... El Cabezo Gordo actually means Fat Mountain, not Fat Head, as stated in an adjacent thread. Fat Head would be La Cabeza Gorda.

Kevin

PS: One of the definitions in my dictionary for 'cabezo' is 'small hillock', but I think 'mountain' or 'hill' is more appropriate here!

Hola

Just having a whinge really. Been learning spanish daily, have many spanish friends who only speak to me and me to them but im not getting FLUENT FLUENT FLUENT. I want to be speaking it without  a care in the world and understanding it the same way. The present and future tense im there but am struggling with the past tense..... agggghhhhhh. I met a lady yesterday whos spanish was perfect.. i asked her how long, she replied 16 years. Sorry dont wanna wait that long!!!!!!! The kids are better then me. My 3 & 5yr olds have conversations in spanish without trying.... why cant adults pick it up so quickly. Anyone out there know a good course which doesnt cost a fortune or a good teacher????. Looked into an intense one at Murcia Uni but maybe a bit far to go on a daily basis.

Having spanish friends is ideal but i dont think its enough on its own to learn correct grammer etc. Hubby speaks spanish to me and tries to teach me BUT would you men out there teach your wives to drive.... probably NOT!!!!! ends up in tears!!

I said to my cousin the other day.... i have 5 friends who are knickers. I meant to say i have 5 friends who are pregnant.                    worth a little chuckle!!!!!!!

Oh well, i guess we just gotta keep cracking on and trying. Fat lot of good my German GCSE´s are!!

whinging over

Hi i am not very good at learning another language but have just got these CD of Ebay

hope this helps

Harry

Michel Thomas Foundation Course: Spanish

Synopsis
Michel Thomas took the language-learning world by storm. With no books, no memorising and no homework, Michel teaches the basic grammar of the language painlessly. Using the method he perfected over 50 years, he shares his secret with the world - and 'makes it simple' - ("Sunday Times"). In only a matter of hours, he gives you a comprehensive grasp of the structure of the language, enabling you to communicate with confidence. The present, future, conditional and past tenses are covered, and you are taught to think about the ideas that you are trying to communicate, rather than to translate words slavishly. He points out the similarities of the vocabulary in English and Spanish and gives you the tools to guess the words you do not know, or think you do not know.Join two students as they learn in real time. Become the third member of the class and experience the excitement of learning a language as if by magic! This new edition has one, very significant, new feature - an additional 'Review' CD. All the main teaching points have been lifted from the Foundation (8-hour) course and are contained on just 2 CDs.

The student hears Michel teaching a specific point, there is a pause which allows time for the student to give his/her response to Michel's prompt, followed by Michel giving the correct response. If the student has struggled or given an incorrect answer, s/he can use the index in the accompanying booklet to locate the area of the main course where the specific language point was being taught in depth and can return to the main course to work through the relevant section again, quickly and efficiently. It can also be used very successfully by those coming back to the course after a lapse of time, either to check how much they have retained or as a quick revision tool. Only Michel's words and phrases are on the new CD, so the course is summarised succinctly and with a new, snappy pace. Finally, the new edition is repackaged, with an up-to-the minute cover treatment and robust DVD-type cases inside a rigid card slip case, to ensure that the CDs remain damage-free and are easy to access and use.

Tina & Harry,

I have just finished the Michel Thomas Foundation and Advanced course, and can recommend them. They are the best learning CDs that I have come across, and the method works for me, but of course may not work for everyone. They certainly gave me confidence to 'get out there' and converse. As usual, they are quite expensive in the shops, but about half price at Amazon.

HI guys

Thanks. Im doing the miceal thomas advance course at the moment and agree with you i have learnt far more here then with anyone else. The foundation course was excellent. However altho im fairly familiar now with the course and feel i have an ok level of understanding and speaking im struggling to get onto that next level. Altho i must say after my whinge yesterday i had a phone call from the council and stood my ground however still need hubby to call back and confirm i translated it correctly as couldnt grasp it all.

IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK TO BE FLUENT OVERNIGHT

I tell you, the past tense is getting right on my nerves now

thanks guys and good luck with your learning!!!
