Hi guys and girls,
There are some questions and remarks about the Carvajal infrastructure in existing topics and on the old board. To keep this new board as informative as possible I propose this new thread.
This topic would be about info and questions about f.i.
- the new pedestrian bridge over the busy Av. de Carvajal
- a rumoured new tunnel passage under the railway
- the rumoured relocation of the railway station
- the track doubling of the existing railway
- the planned renewal of the Carvajal boulevard (Paseo Maritimo)
- the new roads which are currently being developed
-etc
Please dump whatever you know here, even if you have posted it before.

To kickstart this new thread I'll provide some info afaik.
There will be a new pedestrian bridge over the Av. de Carvajal. This is already decided by the townhouse and will be realised in a few months. Shaves some minutes waiting for the red light, but could mean a lot of stairclimbing. At the moment I'm not sure if it will be as wheelchair friendly as lots of the Fuengirola bridges.
The railway Malaga-Fuengirola will get double tracks where possible. This is a very large and complex traject. Near Carvajal the work seems almost finished. In at most a year from now the the travel time from Fuengirola to Malaga will go from 40 to 30 minutes.
When the final part is finished (mainly a tunnel under the Guadalhorce river and the airfield) the frequency of the train will go up from every 30 minutes to every 15. Looks like 2010 before this is realized.
The townhouse has plans to renew the Carvajal beach area. The Paseo de Martimo will become a one way street, creating room for parking at the side of the road (a huge problem at the moment) and a larger area for pedestrians.
I have no idea about the timeframe.
On this board I saw a rumour about a new pedestrian tunnel from Don Juan to the beach. At the moment I see no works that confirm it (there is currently a river which possibly could be converted, but I see no exits from the Don Juan fences in that area). If someone has more info, please post it.
Same about the relocation of the station. I have no info and currently see no indications on the spot.
The new roads are rumoured to lead to Arroyo de la Miel en Benalmadena and / or possibly connect to the existing highway. It's not clear to me what the entrance from the Av. de Carvajal would be: the existing mud road doesn't have the capacity. Again: please share any info you have.
I have no knowledge at all about new shops, restaurants, schools etc. Just wish for them as I hope Carvajal shares in the coastal developments.

There is a tunnel under the railway at the station. You use it to access the station or carry on through to exit down quite a lot of steps to the road. As this is a new tunnel I cannot see why they would do this and then move the station.

In the photo section I uploaded a very unsharp picture (22 october series) of a new road just behind Don Juan (as seen from the sea). There a few hunderd meters which look completely finished and then it just ends on both sides. I have no idea what this road will lead to.
I guess it will make a turn around DJ III but looking at the situation I can't imagine why they make the last turn to the left in that case. The alternative would be that it will lead to the river but this would require a large tunnel under the railroad. Besides I can't imagine how this would connect to the Av. de Carvajal without creating big traffic congestions.
Neither do I know where the other side of this road will lead to. This could be the new road to Arroyo de la Miel en Benalmadena, but construction work in the area suggest that there are other roads in development.

The Track doubling is happening as we speak
There is already a tunnel leading fron Don Juan III to the beach which goes under the train lines
The new roads are going to link driectly to the Pay Toll road
Also infront of phase 3 they are building a comercial area, which will be only one storey high
The station IS NOT going to be relocated, just improved...looks, functionality etc
Hope this helps

Hi Dazkem,
Track doubling and existing tunnel are already confirmed. The rumoured new tunnel is not.
The road is new info. Thanks for that. Do you have any idea how it connects with the Carvajal area?
A commercial area in front of DJIII would be great as it helps developing the area. Any idea what sort of shops we can expect?

Hi everybody;
I have seen the tunnel. It runs near the carabian bar. Perla says they are awaiting a licence for public use.We were there last week and were very pleased with the development. Lots of work going on. Also told that station is not been relocated which we were happy to hear.

Hi Janice,
Great too hear you are going out ther next week could you do me a favour and take a picture of the front of block 5 and the pool beside it as I am dying to see how it looks now, and how the beautiful fences look (not) around the appartment and pool.
Our apartment block 5 is on the ground floor in the middle to the left.
Thanks a million Lorraine

Hi Janice, We have purchased ground floor Block 1, Phase 1 so if you are anywhere near that one a photo would be very much appreciated. However don't worry if it's not possible. Regards Gay H.

Apart from the photo request (next time in Photo's and drawings?) it's very good news that the mystery second tunnel really seems to exists in the mind of the developers. I have yet to see how they will solve the entrance to it from DJ, but we'll see.
A motorway (one way?) straight to the toll road doesn't seem so attractive as it gets quite expensive. We find the old toll free road a very good alternative.

Just recently back from Spain. managed to spend a long time on site and take lots of photos.I am busy uploading them but it is very time consuming. The first ones are Phase 1 Block 1 and the second are Phase 1 Block 5 as I was asked hope they are ok. I will be putting on more of Phase 3, the new roads behind Phase1 Block 1 and a photo of the tunnel. We went into the Carribean bar and met the owner called Simon he was a really nice man and when we asked him about a tunnel that would lead to the Don Juan site he took us to see it, it was almost next door but one building from his bar. As you will see from the photo it is in a bit of a mess due to the recent flooding in Spain, from heavy rainfall. He explained it could easily be transformed into a walkway, as there is a grille underfoot which drains the water. it does come out at Don Juan in the valley beside Phase 1. Maybe we should try to pursuade the developer that it would be an asset to have this tunnel improved. The whole site had suffered some damage from the recent flooding as you will see the roads were in a state, however a few days later we went back and it looked like they were starting on the main road just outside the site. Some of the big boulders they used as walls have fallen away and under the some of the ground floor patios there was a six inch gap where the soil has been washed away, but it did appear they had already started working on some repairs. The new road behind Block 1 was well on its way but we didnt get the time to find out where it went to. Now onto Phase 3 its huge and will block a lot of views, it is not where we were told it was going to be originally. I am trying to post the photos but the eyeonspain website is very slow and crashes.
Janice

For those of you who I have confused with the photos here goes!
Phase 1 Block 1 are in the wrongly dated 12 December no. 73218 ( should read 12th November ). Photos 1,2 3 & part in 4.
Phase1 Block5 no 6386 & 21760
Also the photos in January 1st should state 12th November
Made a right mess of that one did'nt I !!!!!
Sorry for the confusion but I got really bored as they took ages to download and crashed if I tried to download more than four at once
