I saw the light or at least I finally found the tunnel!
I was a bit skeptical about the rumoured pedestrian tunnel near the caribbean bar as I can't imagine the developers investing money after they sold all apartments. Besides the DJ area is clearly fenced off and offers no possible entrance to this future tunnel.
What I do see is is a little river and I can't imagine a conversion into a tunnel. The developers have no interest in it and the town hall expects developers to do these things. Fuengirola is a very organized city and the mayor is doing a great job, but she is a prominent member of the right wing party (PP) and is not inclined to use communal money.
However the rumour is there so I kept on delving and finally found it in the development plan for Fuengirola. Like I stated earlier I couldn't imagine the new road to the A7 tollroad to end on our 'dirt road' and I was right. The plan is to lead this new entrance to the A7 to the Avenida Carvajal. It will be a bit to the left of the river and won't go as far as the beach. The tunnel will just pass beneath the railway. A very convenient way to go by car from Carvajal to the A7 and vice versa. I don't assume you can use it as a pedestrian.
It means there will be a road just to the left of our DJ (seen from the sea) which will lead to the new road which materialized behind our project.
I'm not sure when it will be realized but it's in the official city development plans and it concurs with the new road in the making we can all see. There will be a round-about just behind DJ with a choice of going along DJ3 and use the current 'dirt road' or go to the other side and pass our project at the other side.

Was a bit busy due to Christmas and all, but just posted a google earth view from DJ where you can see a part of the new road (it starts at the red end).
The proposed accesway to the E15 alongside DJ will follow the traject I painted rather crudely in black. The tunnel will be beneath the black circle. The connection with the existing Av. de Carvajal will be by means of a round about at the red circle.
The picture is dated 28-12-2006 in the photo section.

Was in Carvajal over Christmas and visited the site, I also went up around the site at the back of DJ. They have put tarmac on the service roads up there which seems bizarre given what looks like preparatory work for new buildings.
I am a little confused as to how the road at the back of DJ would link to the A7, I walked along it and it looked more like another service road, seems like there is some preparation for building on the right side of that road, also there doesn't seem to be any preparation work to take that road further north to the A7. On a more positive note the service roads on the hill North West of DJ seem to link up with service roads by the Golden [Buddah?] Statue, there is an access to the motorway at that point. I defer to Max's knowledge of the town plan, just thought I'd add this note to provide some colour.
Took some photgraphs on site and will post as soon as I can

They have made the entrance to Phase 1, Block 1, Phase 2 Blocks 1&2 right at the back walking all the way round the outside of Phase 1, Block I, they have also made it a very steep incline at the rear. It would have been a much better idea to have a few steps between Phase 1, Block 1 & Phase 2, Block 2 I hope this is making sense. I would be interested in what others feel especially the people from these Blocks.

Hi Jannet,
It's my understanding that the entrance to Phase II block 1+2 Underground Parking, will be from a small road between phase II and phase III. Main entrance to phase II block 1 will be towards phase I and Bloch towards block 1, and as you describe it, is seems like it will be quite a walk around all the blocks (maybe there will come a path between phase I and II, when phase II is finalized). I'm not sure that this make sence either :o)

I visted the site on the 11th and found internal roads completed, more street lighting and garages cleaner. Also it looks like they have fitted a water system to the edge of some of the grass areas. There are a lot of tiles all over the site that need replacing. But a lot of the recent storm damage has been repaired. There is also another road at the back which you will enter as you ride up to the site just after the road tunnel under the railway. They have made a small roundabout and if you carry on straight ahead on the dirt road you will eventually come to a new road, which is obviously for the new developments. The road has been stopped higher up but looks like it will continue to ?Benalmadena etc.

Also forgot to mention the new walls the railway company have put up are much better than what was originally there and has definetely improved the look of the railway area. I will be posting some photos on my return home. The new road I discussed is totally separate from the new road behind Don Juan which will when completed lead to the motorway.

Hi Janmet,
I am not sure which "tunnel" you are referring to in your post because in earlier posts there is mention of a tunnel somewhere that is in poor condition and the floor of which is covered with debris.
Are you really perhaps talking about the access road to the development just after it goes under the railway bridge?
As well this brings to mind the original advertisements for Don Juan which list "Direct access to the beach" as a feature. I wonder where this direct access is being provided?

WE HAVE JUST RETURNED ON THE 13TH MARCH. THE WHOLE OF THE RAILWAY STATION HAS BEEN MODERNISED WITH NEW LIFTS ON THE BOTH SIDES OF THE PLATFORM AND THE TUNNEL PAINTED AND REFURBISHED. NEW PAVIAS HAVE BEEN LAID ON THE EXIT OF THE STATION TO THE ROAD. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN INFORMED THAT THEY ARE PLANNING TO BUILD SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS OPPOSITE THE STATION. WE WILL BE POSTING SOME PICTURES SOON.

I was hoping we would get a few more shops nearby. However the small store on the seafront is very well stocked and has fresh bread all day. I bought a huge bottle of water ? 5litres for one euro. I would like to see the shop on the corner taken over by another company as I think it is tacky.

Does anyone have any information yet regarding the road next to the train station? Have they started laying a proper surface yet? Also is there any sign of security fencing being installed? I would appreciate some response as soon as there are any changes, Thanks.

Hi Janmet hello everyone, I have just been up to the site the road next to the railway is an amazing width at the moment after the recent works, it must be at least 40 metres wide. Sometime ago I spoke to a lady in the office and she told me there would be parking here for the railway station so that is all taking shape now. There is also some street lights along this stretch which are new. Someone mentioned in another post that they are tarmacing this road at the weekend, I'll be up to have a look Sunday afternoon, and will keep you posted. Up on the site there was some guys putting lights on the lamp-posts, and they were all lit and working. Also I noticed a lot of grass turf had been replaced, the new stuff looks a lot better and really green, and makes the older stuff look poor, I hope it all blends in eventually. Right I'm off all the best MARTIN

Hi Martin
I am very grateful for that information, I look forward to hearing what you find on Sunday. It is hard just sitting at home waiting for completion and wondering how much nearer we are to it.
Thankyou
Janice

We went 'off road' in the Carvajal / DJ area and funny enough discovered a lot of .... roads!
For all those people who visit the site and have a look at the hills in front of the station, thinking this is a undeveloped area, there is a surprise waiting. I put up some pictures (see: july 13th) of the provisional road to DJ from the A7 highway as well as some drawings on google earth pictures.
These drawings are quite childish as a) I can't draw and b) it's impossible to draw with a mouse, but I hope they illustrate the situation. Don't forget to have a look a the second drawing with the same date but a higher number. This last one illustrates how the A7 connects to Don Juan. The earlier drawing has it's own crude legend.
I put in some numbers in case people have questions or (understandably) trouble matching the drawings with the photos. Just ask and I will explain.
The main message is that this whole area is really developing. There is already a large gated community (hence the private road) but based on the maze of roads there will be much more developments in the area. Lots of these roads are completely done including pavements. lighting etc.
I also found a source for the much rumoured golf course. The brochures for the development on the far right of Don Juan mention it. It's not clear if it will ever materialize, but at least we know how our estate agents came up with the idea.

I hadn't realised that Google Earth's pictures of the area were so recent! If you follow the road up to the juction to the A-7 on Google Earth there is a bridge missing which is needed if you are to leave the motorway coming from the Airport direction and access our temporary road - has this bridge been built or will we need to continue on the A-7 to the next roundabout and turn round and come back the other way?
