Has anyone received their spare key back from Key Mare? If like us you have not received yours yet, have you any idea how long they intend on keeping them?

Has all of your snagging been done to your satisfaction? The reason (allegedly) they keep the key is to allow them access to fix problems when you are not in the country. however, in our apartment the only time they have come to fix snags is when we are on site!!

If you are happy with the apartment, they have no reason to keep a key any longer and it should be returned to you. I imagine it is as easy as going to the office and requesting it.

We got our key back from Gema when we were out in March as we were concerned that a number of items had gone missing from the apartment in our absence when the  last snagging job. strangely the only job done when we were absent.   All the other jobs had been done whilst we were on site (and we're not impressed with the quality of the work carried out, so doing a lot ourselves to put these right).

We called in and asked Gema who rang someone and arranged for us to call back later and sign for the key, it was that easy.

My parents were down in March and things had also disappeared from our duplex - incuding a brand new hairdryer, curling tongs and a bottle of perfume.

The patio doorframe to the laundery room was bent during installation, causing the door to not close properly. These were listed on our snag list last June and KeyMare have refused to rectify the faults even though there is a large air gap when the door is closed. To add to the misery, our keyholder on her weekly inspection reported to Keymare in November that both glass panels in the door had been broken since my parents left there in October. My parents' follow-up visit last month resulted in Keymare saying that although their workmen had been in the duplex rectifying other faults they accepted no liability whatsoever since, as we have a keyholder, we cannot actually prove they caused the damage.

We are now left with two broken glass panels and an ill-fitting door - quotes to repair range from 300 euros (for glass) to 2800 euros to fix and re-install the door and frame properly. The contractor who provided the quotations confirmed that the standard of the original installation was dreadful.

For the record, we also have a terrace door that leaks when it rains hard (and it does), but KeyMare are not interested.

We are disgusted with the standard of workmanship accepted by KeyMare and really very, very disappointed with their AfterSales lack of support in putting right defects. They told us they had sacked the contractor and have no money for correcting building defects - how naive can they be!!

We advise anyone not to complete their purchase until ALL the important snags have been cleared.

I have also put this on Veranda's page as a warning to all those yet to complete.

Although we suspected that someone had entered our property as one of the shutters had been left open, fortunately nothing was missing. We have also been fortunate that we have had no snagging problems therefore Key Mare have had no reason to enter, however they are the only other people to hold a key!

I am horrified to read about the problems encountered by nuflow7 and particularly suzi-anne whom I can only wish the best of luck.

when we were out in march we noticed some small things had gone missing as well.  Bed linen had gone as had the long pillow that KM supply.  Only family had been in once since and they confirmed all were still there.

When we completed we had two faulty dining table chairs.  We went straight down to KM's office, and by the time we were back our chairs had been replaced.  Now as we know they dont have a store room onsite, we assumed the KM agent had gone into another apt and swapped out two chairs.  This may have been an apt that had not yet completed but it showed that access is possible into apts.

After the missing items were noticed we went to the gatekeeper with our passports and signed a form to take the key.  If you require no further work then I dont see a need for KM to hold the key.

Key Mares response to suzi-anne's request for building work to be rectified really is cause for concern, why have they run out of money? is it due to still having so many unsold properties on their hands? They would be justified in sacking the contractors if the work carried out was shoddy but they just can't pass the buck saying they have run out of money, they must meet their obligations. It's becoming clearer why we were asked for the extra €100

I fully intend to get my Key back when we are over next week as we do not have any further snagging problems, even if I had I would only have them rectified when I was present. Having read the response to my original thread I realize that we have been very fortunate in that our snagging problems were only minimal and easily rectified, hope I have not just tempted fate!

I'm also very sorry to hear of nuflow and in particular suzi-anne's situation, it is totally unacceptable, and I also agree with Twowasps. I sorted our remaining snags out directly with KM on our last visit in February, even though we completed previously. Unless they're now being deliberately more evasive, a visit to the office in person and a firm manner are what's required. They are obliged to correct the fault with the door frame as it was reported previously and is a direct result of their "employees" actions. Unfortunately the window may be more difficult but I would still suggest a very serious personal visit. If you get no joy, then i'd be on to the solicitors. It seems degree of success is directly related to how loud you shout!

Good luck to all

I would recommend everyone asks for their key back and then leaves it with a reputable person such as their keyholder or the agent whom they purchased through.  A reputable person will be willing to sign an authority stating they hold the key on your behalf and only for the purposes of accessing the property with your permission.

In my experience, Keymare do not give owners prior notice when they intend to access your property and you have nothing from them to prove an actual date/time of access.

As for defects, I strongly advise putting your complaint IN WRITING WITH A DATE ON IT and a reasonable deadline for response so they know you mean business.  As for claiming that the builder is at fault and they have no money - no RESPONSIBLE developer should be allowed to build anything without an insurance policy in place and I would be shocked if KM have done this.  Therefore, they should be prepared to make claims on the insurance company to have the work put right to the standard it should be at handover and the money won't be coming out of their pocket so they have given you a very poor excuse!  There is also a 10 year warranty on the build, just as they have in the UK.  So, SuziAnne, get that camera out - get your evidence - and get typing that letter is my advice.
