Thanks....before you leave the desk ask them what they are going to charge for petrol and check it on the contract. We didnt do that as it was in the early hours of the morning and we had been stood in a queue and just wanted to get home to bed.
Good luck.

We hired a Kia Picanto from Record in Alicante on 11 September and paid €64.78 for the fuel. It wasn't absolutely full but the actual car hire charge was under £8 per day so we didn't feel justified in challenging the fuel cost.

Yes I agree with you, although we had to refuel during our holiday and only paid 10 euros to get a quarter of a tank. Yes back in June we only paid similar to you but going up over 30 euros in 3 months doesnt sound right. I havent had the decency of a response from Record as yet.

I really don't think you will get a response. I find their manner very forceful when trying to get customers to take on the additional insurance. My husband contacted them by phone and on completion of telling them his complaint they had hung up. Never again will we use them.

Thanks for response... we go to Spain several times throughout the year since we have now both retired. We were bullied on several occasions into the extra insurance for car tyres/windscreen etc.,etc., I then read an article in the Sunday papers about Car Hire in Europe and the extra Insurance they try to get off the Hirer when they go to collect the car. They recommended an annual Insurance with Icarhireinsurance which costs £39.99 for an Annual Policy. which you can have several people on it as long as they reside at the same address. We have now taken out that Policy and even though at the Desk they still swipe your Credit Card if there was extra charges that we had to pay out during the holiday we just obtain the receipt for same and when we are back in the UK we then claim on the Insurance Policy. I did telephone the Insurance Company before we took it out and asked what would happen if we actually had a claim whilst in Spain and they said just get the necessary receipts and enjoy the rest of the holiday and then send them in when you are home. We have been to Spain 3 times since taking this out so it has well and truly paid for itself already. If people are travelling to Europe for more than 14 days in any 1 year paying the £39.99 is cheaper than taking out the extra insurance with the car hirer.
Regarding not hearing from Record because it was hired through Car Hire 3000 Manchester and we have hired from them on lots of occasions, I am hoping that they will resolve this problem and hoping that the Desk Clerk who looked very stressed and tired had just got his fingers in knots on his keyboard!! ha ha
We did actually have a car in Spain and then 3 years ago sold it, stupid people that we are worst thing we ever did.
