Back from Marbella trip
The Comments |
Hello everyone i posted a month or so ago and have realised moving to marbella might be a little trickier than first thought .
i originally wanted advice about moving to marbella and some responses were not to bother however rather than paying for 4 children to go into international school which i now realise would cost a bomb we are researching state schools we are aiming for january / february have found a place to rent for a year.
We have decided we are going for the move and will try and source work once we are living there we have currently enrolled in weekly spanish lessons .
some advice on good state schools in the marbella area would be good if anyone knows the area.
Our children are 12/10/8 and 6
Thanks Paul.

Dont expect to find work easily unless you can go self employed most jobs go to freinds or family
Also marbella is rather expensive place to live and not easy to to airport from there you should think about being near to train to get to airport
dont know about schools except am told better than uk ones

Yes, Paul, I remember you posting here. I think you found our realistic replies to be rather negative. I recall that a lot of posters gave you very good advice indeed.
However, it is your call.
I take it this time you actually mean Marbella itself. You have visited and seen the place, and no doubt have weighed up the possibilities. As another poster said, work is very scarce at the moment. Still, nothing ventured nothing gained.
The airport is at most 35 minutes by car. There is an excellent bus service to and from the airport from the main bus station.
Wishing you luck
Patricia

Paul, if your two eldest aren't already speaking spanish, then I would definitely enrol them in classes more than once per week - if you are planning on putting them into state school here, at 12 and 10, I believe they will have a hard time of it unless they can communicate in Spanish quite fluently. I recall a friend of mine putting her 9 year old in state school here in Fuengirola and he suffered badly. Of course, not every child is the same and only you can judge, but if you can get your eldest two extra spanish lessons I think it would be extremely important and beneficial for them. The younger children may not be so affected and will probably pick up the language easily.
Good luck with your move!

Regarding state schools it depends exactly where you are going to live, as you have to send your children to the school in that area. For instance Elviria, east of Marbella has two very good state schools. Where are you going to live ?
