One way car rental con for less than 8 days hire??

Is this a new way the car rental companies have thought of to fleece us for money? Looking for a 5 day rental next month, some of the companies are coming back with a compulsory 30€ "one way" fee for rentals of less than 8 days  . How on earth can that be? As if it isn't bad enough to have to pay the excessive fuel charge and "err on the side of caution", with what has now become a expensive extra insurance scam (used to be 3€ day, now 30€ min).
Ho hum, may stand at the road and "show a leg"

I cannot believe that, what a load of con artists! I wonder why it has gotten like this with car rental? I am starting to dislike them nearly as much as estate agents and lawyers!
