Driving a Spanish car in UK?
The Comments |
Hi all,
My father has kindly given me his car as he can no longer drive. It's on Spanish plates and it is getting delivered to the UK, i need to collect it then drive it home. As in Spain the car is insured would this mean i will be insured to drive it home or will i need to have my own policy?
In the long term i intend to UK register, tax and insure it!
Many thanks
Stu

I think you can have the car over in the u.k for 6 months before you have to legally put it on u.k plates, i would check that the car insurance is covered to drive it out side of mainland Spain, as most policy´s only cover mainland spain.
But i´m sure you will get responses from others on this, but i would check with your fathers insurance company prior to taking it out of spain.

I am insured with Linea Directa and they automatically issue a green card with every policy. You will need beam deflectors on the headlights, but if you are keeping it long term, it would be better to change the headlights. These are available on Ebay for most cars at a reasonable price.
