Car insurance question
The Comments |
Hi,
I'm an American recently relocated to Spain. I purchased a new car from UK since price was better there. while I'm trying to workout other procedural things, I'm try find a an insurance that will provide me with 2-3 months of coverage while I convert temporary UK registration to the Spanish one. One option so far is Abbeygate but I'm not too sure about this company as no one that I know of has used this company. Also, this company would only provide annual coverage and not on temporary basis.
any assistance would be appreciated!

You can't get 'temporary/short term' insurance as a vehicle here has to be continuously insured ( like the UK have recently brought in ) & therefore it is not offered.
Any Spanish company will offer insurance on A) The chassis number,
B) most will offer insurance on UK/other EU registered vehicles,
C) they then just change to the new spanish registration when completed.
Liberty Seguros is one Spanish company that does this & has the bonus of notifying the Dvla of any UK registered vehicle that it insures to ensure that you are on the UK database any time you return.

We use Abbeygate for our Spanish car and also used it fora UK registered car which the DVLA database recognised and they were competitively priced. Never made a claim yet and thats often when you find out how good a company really is!

Thanks all.
Hi Poppyseed, thanks for sharing this info.
I wish I could find out a little about Abbeygate's claim handling in advance...
