what happens if you have lost your nie?

It has been three years since I last needed my NIE and I was wondering what should I do if I think that I have lost it? I have just moved back to Spain and have only realised that a NIE is like a National Insurance number... if I go to the police station and declare it missing will I be issued with a new one? Can anyone help me at all with this?

Normally you need to make a denuncia (a crime report) to the Guardia or National police, that you gave lost it.  Then go to the National Police Documentation office and get a replacement one. There is a fee of about 10 euros I think.  You will need your original passport to prove your ID.

 Thanks! Now for the big question - i have been googling atención al ciudadano but I can't seem to find an office based in Granada... do you (or anyone else) know where I can find one?
