Inverters are around 100 euros per unit more to buy but are around 30% cheaper to run. As from the end of this month the law is Spain has changed regarding air conditioning. You are now only allowed to fit inverters. I fit air con and there are still non inverter units around, however beware as the new regulations about AC units has been known for quite a while by people working in the industry, many of the non-inverter units offered for sale are older stock. Nearly every unit you buy now will do heating and cooling, in fact it can be quite difficult to find cold only units and to be honest it’s a bit of a pointless exercise as the costs are about the same for both.
Air con is more efficient when fitted to each room it’s needed in. People do fit a more powerful unit into say a lounge to try to help cool an adjacent room such as a dining room; however this is the wrong way to go. Air con units need to be sized properly for the room they are going to be fitted. If you fit too powerful a unit in a room in the hopes of getting residual cooling in another room, it will not do its job properly. A more powerful unit will cool down the room too quickly and not get rid of the humidity in the room which believe it or not is as important as cooling to room down. If you don’t get rid of the humidity in a room you will feel cooler but still clammy instead of hot and clammy. You will also still have excess moisture in the room, which is also not good.
. The average price for a 12000btu inverter is around 600 to 700 supplied and fitted depending on what manufacturer you go for and how difficult the fit is. There are more expensive units and there are cheaper units the price is just a guideline.
