Use of UK Disabled badge in Spain
The Comments |
My wife has had a disabled badge for a couple of years. We travel to our place in Spain around 3 times a year and hire a car, but have never used it as we are not sure if it is valid in Spain?
Please can someone give advice on this as we don't want the hire car towed away?

Yes, Spain recognises the blue badge scheme and allows EU visitors to use thier cards.

I've posted a link to the home page because it's interesting reading, click on Spain for the info you want.

Thanks for the reply.
Very Useful.
We definitely wouldn't have known about printing off the notice, which explains in Spanish to any over zealous parking attendants or police about the reciprocal agreement.

Jarvi. Be aware of this regulation :-
Do not park on a road where parking is prohibited.
I have had friends get a ticket and or towed for parking on yellow lines. You can only park where parking is permitted.

ok John
There are quite a few designated parking spaces (mostly un-used) for disabled people at the beach where we go to, that will be where we will use the badge mostly.

Beware of designated disabled spaces which are limited to one user! They display a registration number ON THE SIGN (NOT ON THE ROAD).

I think John is pointing out that you can't park on yellow lines like some councils allow in UK. The blue badge is an EU wide badge and they the EU stars with the country designation inside it. Of course, if you have a Spanish registered car you can park anywhere you like as long as you put the 4 way flashers on. And those handy spots they paint red and white or black and white come in handy for parking. Well, that's what it seems like.
