ridiculous prices but I've bitten the bullet. 5.000 euros for an 8 year old Fiesta. Is it so difficult to buy a LHD in France or Belgium and import it ?

what about re registering it on Spanish plates..?

anyone done this ?

No, but it will cost you circa a thousand euros to get it legal, why bother? If your money is uk based/generated it's a good time to buy with the exchange rate around 1-26. Many spanish private sellers are deluled, they ask prices for 8 year old cars similar to what they paid when new, there are good deals to be had at dealers - a brand new Fiesta will cost around 8500€ (entry level) - look at few spanish websites, segundamano.es, coches.es and milanuncios.com.

If you do go down the private seller route (Spanish), don't be afriad to make a offer of at least 20% lower than the asking price, they won't be offended, they expect it.

If looking at a Dacia  see Aurelia at Renault garage near IKEA /Thadar  Murcia   , she used to work in UK so language no problem , tell her David  Condado Taxi told you. My Dacia Taxi has done me well for 4 years.  Private buyers get a good warranty as well.  Mention scrap deal discount

adverts for new cars include a discuento. That is the scrappage scheme where the government give you 2000 euros for scrapping your old car (it must be 10 years old)

so no old car .....no discuento

Hi John,

My old motor is soldiering on remarkably, but no doubt will need replacing sometime soon, please can you tell me - is there a known date for the discontinuation of the scrappage scheme?

Thanks

There are a few dealers in the UK that specialise in selling Spanish LDH registered cars. Beware of their history however.

The government only gives you 1,000 euro for plan Pive (scrappage over 10 yrs old). The other 1,000 comes from the car manufacturer.  Plan Pive 6 started in June and will last for a year or until the 175 million euros allocated to it runs out.

If you buy a new car without scrappage dealers will still offer a discount especially for cash.
