I think there is the big issue of ease of use. Cheap is good, but if you want a good service need to review differences in types of service / equipment.
Anyone not technically minded and just wants TV is much better off with a simple to use IPTV subscription based system. Much easier to use and parity of quality (with a decent provider). Other 'benefits' catch up TV, with no VPN, 7 day program guide, video on demand & software simple integrated solution
Kodi / XBMC are good for something that gets you free access to much content, including the likes of films in HD, but TV quality is variable (not as good as satellite or subscription based IPTV) & as service you are getting is free, there is no guarantee it will be there forever. Sports for example can be 'hit &miss'. Good if you want for free, but can be technical & too technical for some. Not suitable for rental properties or for those wanting simple. Free TV = more technical.
Satellite TV, as far as channel hopping and quality still rules the roost - if signal available. Also not dependent on the internet. You can also now get satellite receivers with XBMC / Kodi giving both IPTV & satellite options.
