Response from insurance4carhire:
Dear
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, this is something we hear all to often in regards to the behaviours of rental companies I’m afraid.
Please rest assured that if you were to make a claim with insurance4carhire, this will not affect your private car insurance and you do not need to inform your insurers of the claim.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact the team.
Kindest regards,
Customer Service Team – insurance4carhire.com

Glad that you sorted it, it's what I expected, Towergate took over my old firm, they are very good to deal with.

CLUE is a database of insurance claims managed by LexisNexis. All of the major auto insurance companies make monthly loss reports to CLUE. And any insurance company who considers bringing you on board as a customer will consult CLUE before they offer you official car insurance rates.
LexisNexis is just one of many consumer reporting agencies, such as credit bureaus, who track information about your financial history. The competing A-PLUS report from Verisk also tracks auto insurance claims. A-PLUS is less commonly used by insurers, and it functions similarly to a CLUE report.
CLUE’s auto insurance database tracks and retains the following customer information, otherwise known as your “loss history.” Information is retained for seven years.
- Personal Information: name, address, date of birth, SSN, etc.
- Claims Paid: Previous claims that insurers have paid on your behalf.
- Claims Not Paid: Denied claims are also tracked.
- Inquiries: Any serious inquiry to your agent or adjuster are often reported.
Under normal circumstances, your insurer will request your CLUE report only once when they take you as a customer. Once they see your report they may adjust your rates if you’ve neglected to inform them of all losses in your history. After that they’ll keep their own records.
Each insurer weighs various types of claims differently when setting rates for your insurance. Remember that any time a claim is filed it will end up in your report, even if you weren’t issued a ticket or found at-fault for the incident.
Jaki54.
Probably this wont apply to you but certainly worth a look.

Thanks baz1946, that's all rather interesting. I'm being honest with them and yet they're not being totally honest with me, seems like I can't win. I've always disliked the insurance industry from all the stories I've heard and that the staff have training on how NOT to pay out in a claim. I appreciate there's lots of fake claims going on but here I am considering taking the hit on my bank account and put down to experience and they've probably already logged me on their database as a possible claimant. Seems I can't win either way.
i just hope people will learn from my experience and THOROUGHLY check the vehicle on collection and get down on the floor and look underneath (wished I had) and wait with the car until checked on dropping off at the airport.

Yeah videoing would be a good idea, although it's always such poor light in the covered car park. I think that's why they've stung me as unlike you, I don't take their insurance. Would be interesting to hear if the same has happened to others who buy their own excess cover.

You will get many answers from folk on here who have bought the UK based insurance and had a claim with no problems, my ex-father in law was a professional gambler who always made a point of telling me when he won...As far as I know he never lost...Well he never told us he did anyway...Catch my drift.
My last Car Rental insurance from the rental company for 13/14 days came to 143€...Todays rate thats about £116.00, yes quite a bit more if you have more breaks and longer, but thats also the cost of piece of mind I am afraid.
