I have inherited a btv safe from my mother when she lived in Spain. I live in the UK and am having problems unlocking the safe. It is making the right noises, but i think there might be an issue with the lock that goes across the back of the door. My mother lost the master key to unlock it manually. I just don't know what to do.

Try a lock smith or a disk cutter.

First of all make sure that the batteries are fresh

If there is a problem with the lock chances are a manual master key will not solve the problem

If you need it openned because there is something inside you need then a locksmith with a disk cutter will easily open it, for a price, but the safe will be dead

If nothing inside cheaper to take it out and throw it away and start again

Just seen your problem and can confirm what others have said about the disc cutter, someone lost one of my safe's master key and to be honest total waste of time trying to get another one, the makers never kept records of key numbers to any safes they sell.

Anyway, out came the disc cutter, I bought ten top of the range blades, and NOT from the chino shops either, this safe was built into a wall inside a wardrobe and the only way in was via the front, I went around the door edge, the blades cut through the metal and the lock pins...Opened no problem, took less then 30 minutes, used one blade....And I was led to believe that this safe was a decent made one.

Hope this helps in some way.
