Congratulations to all those people who have tried and succeeded, and those who are trying to quit the evil weed!
I was a dedicated disciple to cigarettes for too many years to remember.
However, some long time ago, I was invited to join a group of non-smokers going to Lanzarote. They said I could use the apartment balcony, if I needed a fix. Trouble was I got lonely out there and found I was missing all the fun!
My solution was to get mildly intoxicated with the lovely San Miguel, most every day and even booked a non-smoking front seat on the plane, promising myself that when I got back to England I would stick a fag up each nostril as well as one in my mouth to catch up!!
Then I thought, just a moment, I have gone nine whole days, mildly high, with San Miguel, with no nicotine but have to go to work, so no more alcohol.
I found it important to have a carton of my beloved Fortuna in the drawer, which gave me the power of choice.
What worked for me was to smell the fingers that used to hold the cigarette, to get the wonderful aroma, then have a coffee, while pretending to smoke, inhaling each superb lungful of fresh air!!! I fooled my brain, plus the caffeine in the coffee helped I guess? I went from hour to hour, promising myself a real fag later. But later, never came.
I threw the stale carton of Fortuna away some six years later. Eighteen years further on, I cannot stand the awful stink of people´s clothes now. It makes me feel sick!!
I long for the summer here, to be able to eat outdoors at restaurants and not be contaminated by the smell of that awful drug, which let´s face it is as bad an addiction, if not worse, than cocaine!!
I am surprised that, apart from "cheetah", who said they have asthma, nobody seems to have suffered any lasting medical problems?? Not wishing to be a scaremongerer but that is precisely how COPD starts. However, if treated early, while there is no cure, people can live a comparatively normal life.
So, again, well done guys. Keep up the good efforts. IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!!!
