Plus Valia Tax
The Comments |
Spain's constitutional court has ruled that Plus valia (the tax paid when selling a property on the rise in the cost of land) is unconstitutional and must be scrapped. They say this tax, which goes to the municipality, is assessed differently and can even be charged when there is no increase in the value of the land.
This ruling is not retrospective so you can't claim back any plus valia you may have paid.
Probably now come up with some different type of tax that does satisfy the courts as the amount the townships receive is quite a substantial part of their income. But good news for sellers for the moment.

Hello mariedev
Great news, most scams only have a limited shelf life. Spain's land prices soar in a recession.
I think you are correct that a new tax will be invented to replace Plus valia, I vote for a dog barking tax with peak and off-peak rates. The peak rate times are from 10 pm to 6 am.
