What Tog Duvet ?
The Comments |
Stupid Question I know
My husband and I are having a slight disagrement as to what tog we should get for our duvet . What it sufficient tog for the winter? I visited a few shops in November - the Spanish ones said 4.5 is enough , but the English ones said you need a higher tog . In the UK we saw a duvet with a 7 tog and hubs was all for buying it. We hope to visit in Xmas 08.
Is it worth buying bed linen over from the UK or is it cheaper in Spain ?

Hi Tamsin,
Not a silly question at all.
We have a wool filled duvet (from UK) it has no tog, it changes as you require. Really very good. There is sometimes a need for an extra throw over the top, but this is only on very cold nights.
I'd get a summer weight, say 4.5 and have a throw ready if you need it.
Last winter, pre heating and insulation, we had 2 quilt nights!
I have found bedding a tab more expensive here. You have to shop around.
Regards, Febe

We brought a 2 pack duvet that joins together from the uk with us. It is a 4.5 for summer and a 9.0 for when it is slightly cooler and then they can be joined together to make 13.5 tog for the really cold nights.

It can be good to get one of each an a summer throw - then you have all options!

We bought Ikea two part duvets and therefore have a choice. We can even use them separate on guest beds - very versatile. Cotton sheets etc. from Ikea can be difficult to dry due to the humidity apart from Summer days ofcourse. If you live near a Yorkshire Linen Co. they have a lovely range of bedding, curtains and cushions too. This message was last edited by lifeline on 1/14/2008.

Hi Tamsin
Seeing as we had a spare electric overblanket sitting around here in the UK we took that to Spain as we spend almost a month over Christmas & New Year & often time there in February too. It airs the bed before we get in otherwise first night it's a bit brr in 100% cotton sheets. We only put it on for 10-15 mins. It stays under the Ottoman bed we have otherwise.
However, we generally use just a 7.5 tog duvet in winter. Just depends on whether you heat room, feel the cold etc, doesn't it ?
I bought bedding from Additions Direct catalogue for spare beds there as they are beautiful & so cheap but good quality. We bought Northern Nights bedlinen for our bed as the 320 tog quality is superb & in summer we are so comfortable. Previously I'd have used 50% polyester/50% cotton but would never go back to that for summer in Spain. Far too hot.

Thank you so much for your replies. I think my husband was right ( as usual ) and we will probably buy the 7 tog.
