As always, Roberto is right.  All you need to do when you get your bill is check the kWh readings against your meter.  My money is on the probability that the "consumo" was estimated (it should indicate this on the bill).

Our June/July bill was for 102.44 euros with 26 days occupancy & Aug/Sep was 72.26 euros with 30 days occupancy.

The first lot of occupancy was all rentals so the air con use isn't monitored but the 2nd bill was us for 17 days & we used the air con sparingly.

Hi Leema,  our last bill was 25.74euros and we were there five weeks of that.  We did not have air con on but have a small convector that I put on in the evenings and mornings.   We do not turn of the elec when we leave so that does seem quite high to me.

But I know some of the residents have had bills about 90euros but they do live there all the time.

Our apartments are two bed two bath the same.    Pat

It may be worth seeing if you can register online with your provider, so that you can check your bills from wherever you are. It will all be in Spanish, but once you've figured it out (with a little help from your friends here if needed) you'll be able to keep a check on things easier in the future.

We have just had our first payment taken out of our account from Iberdrola for our electricity.

Although it doesn't seem too bad we wanted to check on the website to see what the standing charges were.  We started to register for ebilling but you need your account number and 2 surnames.  We presume the account number is the one listed on the bank statement but not sure what to do about the surnames.

Can anybody help?

Maureen,

I will sort your bill out once we are there. Tell me where the bill is and I can give them a ring. That seems far too much especially if you don't leave there all the time. What's the name of your supplier? I am ready for a fight!

Ana

Maureen, I noticed our bill in September (I think) was about 200.  I put it down to the fact that we were there for six weeks, using the a/c, etc.  I think the a/c pumps up the cost somewhat - but, saying that, you were only there for a couple of weeks during that period, weren't you?  So does seem really high for you.  I'll have to keep a closer look at our bills, I think, too!

Hi

I don't know about Iberdrola, but I would guess that you need to enter your Iberdrola account number, and surname (appellido 1) as per the receipt (factura) or contract, which you should have.  Leave "Appellido 2" blank.

That should get you into the web site, I think.

Again, you need to check your consumption on the meter - just take a reading every month and subtract the previous reading.  The number you get will be the kWhs used.  These go out at about 15cents /kWh.

The reading you get on your bill should say "E" or similar against the "Consumo" if it has been estimated.

If you are renting out your property,  consider a pre-paid card meter (see maximeters web site).

I hope you get it sorted.

Max

Maureen, are you actually receiving the bills, or just seeing the amounts deducted from your bank account? If you have the bills, they should explain what the amounts relate to.

I don't know who your supplier is, but I assume it's one of the Endesa group? Billing has been changed to every month now, with alternate months estimated, based on average monthly usage over the last 12 months (details, in Spanish, on Endesa website here). Maybe that will help explain the extra bill?

mike and dawn the 2nd surname is your second name so if you are Mike ******* Last Name then the stars would be your second name the account number is the contract number which should be the reference number on your bank statement after you have signed up they may still not send you log in details if tyhis happens go to the site and select that you have forgotten your details and then they will resend them

Just  reading about  about  Leema   asking are her bills correct.  In her posting she says that she turns the elecric off. Is this at the actual circuit breakers and the main switch. Because  sometiimes the air con units will draw a small but constant load while they are in standby position. in the UK and Ireland it is standard to have double pole switches on fixed appliances. Not sure of regulations in spain but I have seen many fixed appliances without double pole  isolating switches.  it is  important to switch off at circuit breakers to ensure no power being used. It is also most unlikely that the meter is faulty. If the bills indicates power consumption someone has used it.  So turn off at the mains

To correct Conrad, the Spanish have two surnames, the first taken from the father, and the second from the mother.

Thus the way of enterering data into a Spanish web site is this: you enter your Christian name(s) in "Nombre" and your Surname in "Appelido 1".  You can try leaving "Appellido 2" blank, or enter '-', surname or whatever.

Just read about the electricity charges and wonder if anyone can give me advice..

We completed on a property in April 2008.

We have received no bills to explain charges as no mail going to property yet.  Not sure how to get them directed to UK, if that is possible.

Ist direct debit  on 16/6/08 for electric was 139.30 was told this included meter charge.

2nd direct debit 1/8/08 was 13..79.  We were getting house furnished/snagging ect

3rd d.d  on1/10/08 was 19.72 (tenant in since 20/8/08)

4th d.d  on 5/12/08 433.67 euros!!!!!

5th d.d on 29/12/08 9.86 euros.

The electricity company are called Sevillana Endesa, with an address in Sevila, we have a copy of the contract but this is in Spanish and therefore can not read this.

Any advice on how often the bills are usually sent,  How we can find out about the amount charged (especially the 433.67 eruos)

Are the metres usually outside or inside the property and are other people able to access these to use our supply withour the knowledge of the tenant who is in the house?

Appreciate any information.

Many thanks

The bills are sent to the postal address on the contract - presumably the address of your property?

You can request bills to be sent by e-mail. You will need the last invoice number - hopefully it will be on your bank statement, if you can't get hold of the bill itself.

Go to Sevillana online here, select Alta en oficina online on the left hand side menu, next stage, select No dispones de código de activación, and click Alta oficina online; next, select soy propietario de viviendas and acepta; you will now have to fill out your contract, last invoice, name and contact details (as per your contract) and choose a username and password - fairly standard stuff, but if you get stuck, come back and ask. At the end, you should choose the option for servicio e-factura.

I've not actually done this myself yet, so hope it works for you!

Thank you for this  information, I will try this today.

Do you know if a bill will still be sent to the address as well or just to us online?

The reason why we have not received any post so far is that since the site has been competed many people have decided not to go through with the purchase because of lots of problems with the site and the agent who was selling the property.  The community of owners agent has told us there has been no post delivered to the site, not sure what the reason was but there is certainly no post boxes on the site yet and we completed in April this year.

Am still wondering if there would have been any way that builders who are still on site, could have connected to our supply while working on other properties, which is what the tenant is saying she has been told (hence the massive bill for 433.67 euros which we have not receivd any payment for).  Does anyone have any knowledge about this, if it could happen/how it could happen/would the tenant who is living there be aware they have done this. Are the places that they could connect inside our property or outside?????

Appreciate anyones knowledge on this.

Also like to ask how often the water is billed as we have not had a bill or money stopped yet since we completed in April and not sure if this is metered as well.

The solicitors we used for completion have now moved to Valencia and have told us that they are to far away to deal with any issues (but could put us in touch with other solicitors in the area), so we do not actually have a solictor to deal with it for us at the moment.
