Hi
Big Brother is watching - as I posted some time ago, I bought a pre-pay phone locally and had to show my residencia and fill out a form with my inside leg measurements, and signed.
Surely this is none of their b$$$$y business! I have paid for a service, and although legal and honest am being spied upon.
Zapatero scares me nearly as much as Blair/Brown.
Another thing - a friend of mine asked me to top up his phone as he was in the UK and wanted to keep the number, and thus required an activity on it. This I duly did (receipted). When he came out a month or so later, Movistar (Telefónica ) had cut him off and just kept the money.
He said he would sue them and they said . That was some time ago, and is still pending. The first thing is NEVER use Movistar. Secondly, nowadays, SIMs are so cheap, if you only come out on holiday, it is easier to buy a new SIM and stick it in your old phone.
In fact, if you shop around, you can find a SIM for 10€ with 12€ calls credited on it! .
Morerosado - next time you have a problem like this, send me a private message and I will do my best to sort it.

I use Moviestar and when I was last over I thought I had lost all my credit. I always top up every 6 months and had done it 26/6/07 and 10/12/07. I thought that my last top up would have been valid until 26/6/08 but the phone needed topping up by 10/6/08.
I arrived at the house last week in June and after a couple of days found out I couldn't make any calls, not impressed with Moviestar and after giving my dear husbands ears a bashing about what a crap company they were and how dare they keep my money, I nipped round to the local kiosk and put 5e (minimum) amount on to see what happened.
Hey presto the credit appeared back with the added 5e minus iva.
Can't remember now if you have 30 or 45 days after expiry of top up date to load up your phone. After that you will loose your number and credit.
My original phone is quite large and last year I bought myself a slimmer one so now have two sims. I realised on the day I was leaving in April that I needed to top it up so I left 5e with my neighbour. She topped it up for me and rang me the following day to confirm she'd done it, she was surprised to find out that I knew she had done it. The phone had a message on it.
Just realised that's another thing to add to my to do list for October. top up the second phone.
Curious what does this mean Morerosado - next time you have a problem like this, send me a private message and I will do my best to sort it.

We also have a vodaphone spanish sim which we bought about 4 years ago over the internet.
On the advice we have read, we recently took it into a Vodaphone shop (Costa del Sol) to be registered. They asked for a passport, entered the number on their computer and we promptly received a message telling us that we had been credited with 12 euros. I asked them what it was all about and was told it was for security reasons in case we lose our phone and that it should have been done when we first purchased the sim card. They also said that there was no deadline for it and didn't seem aware that you could lose your number.
I think they said that credit is lost if no calls are made in 90 days, can anyone confirm this.

This is nothing to do with phone security - it's to do with President Zapatero wanting to stick his nose into everybody's business, just like Blair and Brown.
As they said in a documentary years ago, don't say anything on a mobile phone that you wouldn't shout across the street.
As I said previously in this thread, Telefónica will cut you off more or less when they feel like it. You will lose your money AND your number and there is nothing you can do about it.
They have also bought out the competition Iberbanda so I am expecting the quality of service on my Iberbanda telephone line to deteriorate soon.

Pat - you have until 2009 to register your details/passport number on your mobile number. I think it's more likely to be an automated call trying to get you to sign up for a deal.
I topped up my second mobile whilst over last week and had two messages come though offering me whatever, funny but I didn't get them on the phone I regular use when over.
I think with Vodafone you have a 9 month top up life whereas with Moviestar it's 6 months. Both have a 45 day extention before you loose your number and credit.
My friend was telling me that she thought she had lost her credit on her Vodafone mobile but when she topped it up with 20e found it miracously appeared as part of the credit total.

Is this actually legal in terms of European laws? I have a gut feeling that it isn't, but I don't know much about European law.
I'm not sure I like all this registration stuff. I'm already registered in Madrid, they have my phone number, now I have to do it the other way round again..

This registration is a security measure after Terrorist attack of March 2004. Cell phones were an important tool for that disaster. I cannot see its illegality as a matter of protection.

Went to the Habernaras today to register my mobiles. Amena, now Orange was bought in 2001 and was on their register. Otherwise it would have neen 0.15€ to register my passport details.
Went to Moviestar next door. Of courese being Telefonica their computer was broken and the paper forms were not due till tomorrow. Telefonica really does live up to its reputation at times.
