The easy route is to apply for atourist visum at your local Spanish consulate, and come for a holiday. For this you need to show a return ticket to the USA. The more complicated one is to try and work here, which is very involved. You need someone in Spain to invite you to work with an official full time work contract with a minimum of one year duration. This person needs to apply here for permission to offer you a job for which he can find no-one in the Spanish or European Union labour market.
The other route is to marry this girl, for which you need to apply for your resettlement to Spain from the USA. All in all, there is a fair bit of red tape to wade through.
Get in touch with the Spanish Embassy website, and I am sure there is more information there.
