Hi All;
Just in case you miss the offer or are in Spain...
Carrefour, Mediamarkt and Alcampo offer items which are more impressive and cheaper I'm afraid...
We have just bought a 500Gb external harddrive from Alcampo, at a cost of 84 Euros...
No hassle installing, no software to instal, the unit is plug and play.
The leads for power and data transfer (USB 2) are supplied with the unit.
Just for info and to answer a question which may crop up, the unit we bought is backward compatible with  USB 1, but data transfer is slower than with USB-2.

Hi Foxbat, my OH says this one from QVC automatically backs up all files on the PC (without you touching your keyboard) in a couple of minutes & next time you plug it in, it only backs up any modified files & new files. He hasn't seen anything like it before, totally ingenious. He says it's not like what you are telling us about. QVC have not only sold out of the days stock, they've sold out of advance orders too. I must admit it was wonderful to see it being demonstrated.

Morerosado Hi,

Sorry I misunderstood and I cant access QVC to see the demo.
Seems pretty damn good to me!
As an automatic back up it sounds ideal.

So basically if I create say, a new pictures file from my digi camera and load it onto the normal internal hard drive, it is simultaneously and automatically copied onto the external unit.

Presumably if you accidentally (or deliberately) delete a file from the internal hard drive it will leave the copy on the external unit or does it delete the copy as well?

But if you delete from the external unit only, to free up some space, the next time you switch it on it will recopy the original, because it will see it as a new file.

I think I much prefer to have control over both hard drives in terms of their content.

Just playing devils advocate here...

Yesterday while watching movie on my PC it appeared as black on the screen and stopped working. After restarting the PC it was not responding as the BIOS was unable to recognize the hard disk. It creates an unusual sound while BIOS searches drives.

1. I tried by booting the PC using another hard disk but this HD does not appear in the windows.
2. I also tried to boot using Ubuntu live CD but failed to find my HD on it.

As it is not recognized by BIOS, I can't use data recovery software to recover the data. I'm badly in need of all data in it.

Did you change the jumpers on your second hard drive to make it a master drive rather than a slave?
