I don't seem to be able to add to my previous thread, so am giving an update here.  Thanks to all who provided feedback, especially Myra for the website details, I paid online, and received a discount for paying within 30 days.  Couple of things for anyone else using the site, my NIE starts with a X, but that is left out, as is the - between the nukbers and the final letter.  Also, the reference number on my fine had various commas and dashes, and these are all left out.

Thanks also to Morerosado for your humour, maybe i will learn from this and think of that sign next time I am about to put my foot down, but then again ..................

Ted

Other thread was Speeding fine on A-7 towards Alicante Anyone else having trouble posting in there ?

Myra had said in there that someone had problems paying through the site she gave details of.

However, Ted, glad you managed to pay & thanks for seeing my SOH. I wonder if the reason someone else couldn't pay was because of the 'X' factor ?

(Get it ? The 'X' factor ? )

100 euros they were fined !!

This may well be law, Maria, BUT police in our area (Valencian area) are certainly fining drivers well within these above. Our resident friends were fined around 70€ recently ( he paid on the spot so it would've been 100€ ) for doing 75 in a 70 area. Your tabulation shows he should've been doing between 81 & 100 to be fined that.

I've seen posts by others local to us who have been fined for doing 45 in a 40 area near us where there are constant roadworks due to the main N332 being changed from single lane to a dual carriageway. So, where's the justice ? How can this happen ?

Glad to find this forum !!! Seems very helpful.

Anyway, I have received a 100 Euro speeding fine letter from Ministry Del Interior for speeding. Yes I know it is genuine and I was speeding. Now I have been trying to pay the fine using DGT dot ES but a bit confused about the procedure.

1.What is NIF NIE or CIF ?

2. what is N. Expedinte at the top of the bar code on right hand side? is it the document number or record number?

3. If the above number is docu number then where is the record number?

Oh I am so confused !

Would appreciate any help !

Thanks

Hi Minerva - so was I!!

An NIE is a sort of national Insurance No - I believe for non-Residents - which you would get if you were purchasing a property.  I don't know re the other two - or what you do if you do not have an NIE I am afraid.  The document number would be your NIE number, or other document if using one of the 2 alternative options.

The N. Expedinte is the record number - enter it without any of the commas, dots or dashes.

Hope that helps

Ted

Hi Ted,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I don't have any NIE. I am just a tourist who went there for a week. I am more than happy to sort out this matter by paying the fine.

It says on the letter that , I can pay using internet but it doesn't say how to pay without NIE or NIF etc.

Is there any expert in this forum can clarify this ?

Thanks

Ted H.

NIE is numero identificacion extranjero for non spanish instead of their NIF numero identificacion fiscal. Both refer to your Fiscal number and not insurance. Yes if you are a resident or non resident you need this number to carry out any transacrtion here.

Minerva. If you cannot pay on the web let me know. I must say the authorities are really really lucky that you are all paying your fines. would not be the case the other way round. I personally do not like this chasing people in the UK. First fines, then no doublt the unfortunate ones that have been caught out with the crisis and low sterling and having to hand keys back. I am afraid you are setting a precedent for this non to helpful goverment and system. Well thats my view and I am sticking to it.

Thanks Myra,

I do agree with, and did seriously think about non-payment, but as I am hoping to get to Spain as much as posible, I am just worried about what might happen if I am stopped by the police, and they chek my licence and find outstanding fines ??? Maybe nothing, but if I am over with my Son I don't want to risk being dragged off to the police station etc.

Ted

Myra,

Thanks for your response. It seems only people with CIF/CIE are able to pay using the web. Also the payment page seems down a lot.

If I am unable (which is highly likely) to pay using the web, what other options I have?

Thanks

This is a really good thread and could prove useful to any non-resident home owner who is caught out with the new speeding fine restriction.

Myra - The NIE and NIF numbers are the same as the National Insurance number in the UK.  It's a misleading title to anyone not resident in UK.  National Insurance is the same as Automino? in Spain.  It would make more sense to call it National Identification number as you quote this number on tax returns as well.

Just talk to my car hire company. They do not pay the fine on behalf of the driver. So I have to deal with the authority directly. The car hire people kept saying that there should be bank details on the letter. but I don't see any bank details on the letter at all!

It is giving me a real headache now! grrrrr....!!

More, with that chart on hand and if the vehicle is not speeding over the limits, I would just say: do not sign the fine, once it is notified to your home address ( if they can), you could then oppose it accordingly.

Best regards,

Maria

Semijubilada.

Hope this does not make things more complex. National insurance number is long number starting with ss (seguridad social)

Autonomo (self employed) So you would have a ss number. If you are non resident NIE only to carry out transactions. Your fiscal ID.

Residencia also has a NIE number. If you are going to live here go straight for residencia and you will get your NIE. So one transaction for the two things and you only pay out once. Non residents. Be careful, many go for the NIE and end up taking residency. This will alter your tax situation, medical treatment and so on.
