UK car in Spain

Thankyou for your reply roberto, yes i will tax it here too before i drive it over i can  get insurance in ireland but only for 3 months after that i need to get a company in spain to take it on, i wont be resident in spain  not for another  10years or more i would think, so is it ok to have a car over in spain an just use it for when your over on hols? this is were i get very confused?

As long as it is road legal in Ireland, and you don't use it in Spain more than 183 days a year, I think no problem. Of course, in the (unlikely) event that the authorities become aware of it being here more or less permanently, you may have to prove to them that you are not here more than 183 days and therefore not resident. But if you keep your tax, insurance and MoT all valid, and hang on to flight tickets etc. to prove your movements, I can't see any problems.

You may want to look into the cost of returning by car every couple of years though. It might be better to buy a cheap run around in Spain. As a non-resident, as long as you have your NIE number, you can buy a Spanish plated car - and it will be LHD.

 Thankyou very much roberto  now i understand you have been a great help,it would have been the best thing to buy one but i bought this car here in ireland 2 years ago for to have in spain & now i wont get the money i payed for it, so i will keep it, my apartment was too be ready back then but wasnt ready until january of this year. sods law.

Just posted a new thread about buying a car in Spain. Appaently you can no longer own a car in Spain if you are a non-resident, even if you have a N.I.E. number. We were informed of this by our solicitor when we went to buy a car. last week whilst on holiday. This law only came in a few days ago apparently.
