Hi Tony,

you choose econorent from the drop down tab on the hirecarsinspain.com web-site.

Cheers

Tony.

Have just had the same expereince using CarJet for a rental out of Alicante. There was no clear indication that I could find on their website before I booked as to their current fuel policy but when I have used them in the past its always been full to full. Only after making the booking did I find on their order acknowledgement that in this case its its full to empty.

I complained about it and this was their pathetic reply:-

Hi,

Im afriad that the supplier we have who does offer a full/full basis on
the fuel is sold out so we can not offer a full/full on the fuel, so it
will be on a full/empty basis.

kind regards
emma
carjet

So beware

same with DYS......... you need to ask which car company you wish to book with........  They don't tell you on line until you print out the booking so you need to specefy and check what the fuel policy is. We were offered goldcar for half term which I turned down and opted for another provider with full/full fuel policy. As there seems to be such variation on fuel policies the more favourable seem to be getting booked up.

Sometimes the cheapest car hire quote is not the cheapest when you add in all the extra charges.......

Yes its Goldcar I have been stuck with by CarJet; an expensive lesson as I only need to drive about 200Km in the hire period!!

What really annoys me is the underhand way they do it. Needless to say I wont be using Carjet again.

If you want to know which company you will get when booking with Do you Spain, select the choice of having a quote e mailed.

I have done this several times and it works.

Booked through Do You Spain as usual during recent trip in January. Car hired through Auriga Crown who charged me 300 Euros deposit because I did not require additional insurance for tyres etc. Plus I could return the car full for a change instead of empty.

Beware the 300 Euros was debited to my credit card immediately and not refunded until I returned to the UK 3 weeks later.

They informed me it was recent policy change. I have asked Do You Spain toi investigate.

Thanks TP1 I was so annoyed I had overlooked the fact that I only had a reservation and that I could cancel it.

In part this was because I had already paid £8 for the top up insurance but I decided to sacrifice this and give hirecarsinspain a go.

Because the start date was within 24 hours I could not book on line so I phoned them.

Blimey what a difference in attitude. It was 5:30 this evening and I needed a car for tomorrow. Gordon Day straight away said that he thought only GoldCar had cars left at Alicante (I wonder why?). He warned me they were full to empty and so I explained my problem with them/CarJet.

He offerred to phone Econorent in Alicante and then phoned me back within 5 mins to say they could do a car on a full to full basis.

So far I am VERY impressed with hirecarsinspain; of course the proof of the pudding will be if I get a hire car tomorrow so I'll report back next week.

I used Econorent (again) through Hirecars last week.  Excellent service, didn't take the extra insurance (not forced).  Nice, clean car (Citroen C3 five door) and full/full for fuel.  £96.05 for the week.  They have now taken to given you a picture on which you can mark any damage down before you take the car away.  20 cents for the car park.

Will continue to use them.

Was the 300 taken in sterling or euros? They did this to me, took the deposit in sterling and refunded me in euros!! So I lost out twice on the exchange rate.

Agree with Marksfish - it is my understanding that econorents only full/full agreement is with hirecarsinspain.com and not if you book directly with econorent, or I assume through any other agents.

We've used before with no problems and my only gripe is that on the last couple of bookings we've made online we have selected our car and all seems well but then a few hours later have been phoned by hirecarsinspain and tols that that type of car is not available and they only have larger cars available....fine if they would supply them for the same price but unfortunately they don't.  The first time we opted for this but it has now happened 3 times and personally we feel this is just their way of ripping us off!

Scottebabe

Perhaps you should call their bluff, and ask for a full and immediate refund (that is if you have already paid). Otherwise tell them you have other options, and see if they magically find the car you want.

************BEWARE*******************

These guys are an absolute con! They billed me £150 for damage to a car 10 days after I arrived home! And the crappy little 10 year old car they gave me was covered in dings and dents, none of which were caused by me! Absolute wa***rs!

mabs1973 - So easy to anonymously knock a company.

Should you not have complained about the 10 year old crappy car and it's dings and dents when you first saw it?

Maybe it is you who is the - quote - ''Absolute wa***r!''  for not!!

It is normal to do a visual check when taking and returning a hire car and for both parties to note and agree on any damage and sign for it.

mabs1973.

I assume you are having a go at Econorent??

I have to admit that their cars are not always in perfect condition bodily but then few are in Spain. Econorent are one of the cheapest deals around and part of the reason in my view is that their cars are slightly older than some fleets. Thats fine by me as they have always been in good mechanical condition.

Each time I have hired via Hire Cars of Spain (4 times this year so far) the car I have booked has always been there waiting for me and the Econorent assistant has always walked around it with me and noted any dings etc on a form a copy of which I have then retained.

Cannot understand why you did not get the same service as armed with that form you could certainly argue your case if as you say you had not caused any damage or damage was not caused during your hire period.

Another tip with any hire company is to take some pictures of any damage; with todays cameras it takes but a minute and shows Hire Companies that you are NOT going to be an easy touch if they do try the damage con.

Sadly, Econorent aren't servicing Murcia this sumer, so having to use Auriga Crown. I had a C2 earlier this year and someone kindly keyed it all the way down the passenger side, not just once but three times!! I Skyped HCiS the next day to tell them what had happened and they said to just take a photo and forget it as the insurance with them covered all circumstances. Never heard anything else about it.

hi joe, my place is not far from you and I got really fed up with ever increasing hire car charges and being ripped off.  It go so bad that i didn't know if I could use my own place with the huge cost every visit.

I looked around and bought a cheap spanish reg car (very cheap but very old!) and now keep it at Plane Parking near Murcia airport.  The guys there can't do enough for you and the cost is good with a long term contract.  I'm much happier now I'm in control of the money, not the hire companies.  might be worth a try.

edited to add - apologies joe - just saw your other posts and you are already looking!  Sorry!
