Hi,
Stella & I are going over in October & for a number of reasons we don`t particularly want to hire a car to get from Murcia to San Juan. Someone mentioned that it is possible to get a train into Aguillas so I`m wondering if anyone has done this or, has any info as to how practical it would be. Obviously any other ideas would be very welcome.
Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger
The last time we were in San Juan, the four of us had a run up to Jaravia Station ( may be wrong spelling ) 3km just after the new golf .I am sure the trains run 3 times a day from Murcia via Aguilas, I am not sure of the times but if Ray is reading this maybe he can remember. Better still if our local slueth, Jacqui can investigate along with the pups of course it would be more accurate. It would be great to hear from someone who has travelled this way though.

How are you planning to get to Murcia train station as Murcia airport is not in Murcia, it's actually 45 kms away. The nearest train station I can see is to go to Balsicas, which is 11kms from the airport (distances from Google Maps)
You can then get a train from Balsicas to Murcia, and then from Murcia to Aguilas. The train from Murcia to Aguilas does pass through Jaravia, I;m not sure whether you have someone to collect you from the station, not sure what taxi's are like.
The other thing I may be able to source is someone locally who would collect from the airport, if you are interested - it's only about 50 mins from San Juan.
Let me know. I will be at quiz night Wednesday and my ladies group Thursday so i can ask the relevant question of the locals on either of those days.

Hi All,
Just read this thread, and it looks like Jacqui has sorted it. The only times I can remember are a train left Aguillas/Jaravia for Murcia just before 7 am. and another got you into Jaravia / Aguillas around 11pm. The journey time was around 2 1/2 hrs. But then you have to get to and from airport from murcia.
I know Richard & Ava Clarke do transfers. They are on Golfsanjuan web site. and live in San Juan.
I am sure when we all settle we will arrange "friends and family" lifts!
Happy Days. Ray and Ann

Hiya
I have found this website which shows there is an airport shuttle bus from San Javier airport to Murcia bus station which takes 45 mins, so this may put a train journey back into being possible, just not sure about access from Jaravia to San Juan, http://costacalida.angloinfo.com/information/61/busses.asp there is a link for prices and timetables on this website link and then train timetable from Murcia to Aguilas here http://www.aguilas.tv/aguilas/h_trenes/hor_trenes.htm.
The first link also has phone numbers for Aguilas bus station so it may be possible to ask for help about the journey by bus. There is also the website for the Murcia Tourist info which may again be able to help better with info about travel from the airport to Aguilas.
I have been asking around and getting a bus from the airport down to San Juan looks like it may take a bit of organising. Nobody knows of a single bus that does the coastal route down to here and the general view is that there would need to be some a couple of bus changes, the best I can find is San Javier airport to Cartagena, then Cartagena to Aguilas.
http://www.um.es/sumass2002/Useful.htm shows a bus from San Javier airport to Cartagena and this http://www.aguilas.tv/aguilas/h_autobuses/horario_autobuses.htm gives timetable from Cartagena to Aguilas, and Aguilas to Almeria, which I think is the one that comes through San Juan as I am being told there is only one bus in and one out of here per day.
Just be careful as some buses only run Monday to Friday, so if you are travelling at a weekend it may be a problem.
Or, as suggested by Rayann, contact Richard Clarke to see what cost an airport run would be (from asking around I understand it would be in the region of €80-100 one way)
Sorry, it'snot a definitive answer but hopefully there is enough info here for you to sort your trip out.
