I had a forward contract from Moneyorp for 58,000 EUR and have been charged 210 EUR by Halifax for receiving my own money!!!! on Moneycorp's website and after speaking to them they say It's not there problem and will only pay charges if they have occured before the money reaches your account.
I have another lot of Euros to transfer in and need to raise a bankers draft as well and by the looks of things it is going to cost me £460 in bank charges WTF
Has anyone else had these problems?
Thanks
A p##sed off Dan

hi dan
two weeks ago i had the same problem.halifax transfer to torfx £25 then halifax espania want 0.35% to recieve the money and about 150euro for the draft.
the exchange rate was poor from halifax so i would not transfer halifax to halifax es.in the end i decided to transfer from halifax(£25 charge) to torfx who paid the money direct to PW.saving about £500.some will say you'd be nuts to pay in advance but PW have already had 40% when condado was only a dust bowl in the desert.if i had to do the transfer today i could get 1.265 from torfx or moneycorp.

Hi Dan
We had no extra charges when we sent our money via hifx to banco halifax. I would've been very p'd off if there had been.
We've just sent some money over for furnishing with currencies direct - we'll see if we are charged by them.
When we first bought the apartment we had a solicitors bill to pay. We transferred money from our account to the solicitors account using Lloyds TSB. As well as the 25€ admin fee, we were also charged by the solicitors bank for them to receive the money. When the cashier at Lloyds TSB had filled the in the form she had ticked the box for us to pay all the bank charges.
Wonder if some of the currency exchanges are absorbing these charges.

this is the wording on moneycorps website, very misleading and worthless !
Bank receipt charges eliminated
Moneycorp guarantees that you will not pay any receiving charges when making international payments.
Receiving charges are charges deducted from your funds before arrival in the beneficiary account. We guarantee that we absorb all these fees when making your international payment regardless of the transaction size or which bank is involved.

Jill,
Alarm bells should be ringing there. You are being ripped off. I have heard of charges being quoted from 800 euros up to 2000 euros for similar properties but nothing as extortionate as that ! I was led to believe that the average was based on a 1% correlation to your final purchase price.
Regards,

Seems to be no one regulating anything in Spain where English buyers are concerned. We've had posts in the past where people have been concerned with the additional fees they've paid for mortgages, bank charges, solicitors and now currency exchange.
Dan - I think you've been unlucky. If I read that statement on the moneycorp website, I would presume that it was up to them to pay all the charges.
Jill - our solicitor also charged us about 1% of our final purchase price. He told us what the charge would be before we actually made the purchase. The only thing we had to pay for in addition was the Spanish wills.

Dan, Halifax quote that there are no charges for transfers (if IBANs are used) received up to €50,000 where an IBAN and BIC are used. Over €50,000 the fee is.35% - which is about the figure Dan appears to have been charged. If the next payment is the same amount, ask them to split it into two payments and you should save the charges. MT fees are also expensive from Spain, another option, depending on your timing, is to open a Euro account with HBOS offshore, move the Euros to that and get them to give you a draft that you can take with you to Spain - they post it, and charge £16 - you should also be able to move money free between the offshore account and Spain, to get everything in the right place.

Hi all,
We have a Spanish account with CAM and when we set the account up they told us that we could transfer money free of charge using CECA, a Spanish banking federation. You can either send them a cheque and when it clears they transfer the funds at a favourable rate for the day, the down side to this is that you cannot set a rate and you won't know what it has been transfered at until you see it in your bank statement, or if you are local you can call into their London branch with cash and they can give you a rate and transfer it instantly. We haven't been charged by CAM to receive the money on any of our transfers yet.
The number of the London office is 02074841500. They have told us that they are going to set up a regular payment facility in the future.
Hope this helps, Jo & Harvey

Jill,
In you earlier posting you mentioned 'legal fees' which I assumed you were calling just the solicitors fee. At 1500 you are about right for 1% of a 3 bedroom which is not a kick in the backside off 150,000 euros by the time the IVA etc has gone on. You get taxed one way or another wherever you go in this world (if you are legal of course !) Your insurance seems a bit above the average, but all the other costs seem to align. Can be a bit of a shock can't it how they all build up.
Regards,

We are with CAM, have made a number of transfers to them straight from our RBS account and have not been charged any receiving fee, even for sums >50k. They have branches in Mazarron and Camposol, I also hear that they will have a branch in Oasis, they seem to have at most PW resorts.

Hi All
We have a Halifax account in Mazarron, and we do transfers with currency direct, for which there are no fees , unless you want a next day transfer for £25.00, the Halifax actually recomended currency direct rather than themselves as you get a better rate.
