Hi everyone,
Just had this email sent to me from a rental website I advertise on. PLEASE READ IT.
Just so that you are aware, you may recently received an email enquiry from lee4real4u123@live.com
This enquiry raises a few red flags due to the type and number of enquiries made, as well as the level of English employed (although this is not always a reliable indicator!) however we have also been informed by a couple of owners that they have had some unusual correspondence with this person. You may wish to treat this enquiry with "caution", or simply ignore it...
I have had such an enquiry. This is a copy of what I have received from this "Lee" person

Advice to you from the website where the enquiry came from :
What are fraudsters trying to get out of you
The most common scam that is attempted involves the renter making a booking enquiry, paying a deposit, then one of two things happen
1) The renter overpays the deposit and then asks for you to refund the overpayment - typically by Western Union or to a 3rd party. You do this, then their original payment bounces and you are out of pocket.
2) The renter pays the deposit and the cancels due to some family emergency and asks for a refund. Sometimes they 'generously' let you keep a percentage of the deposit for your trouble. Again, refund payment is often requested by Moneygram or Western Union - and as before their original cheque bounces.
The problem is that international cheques can appear to clear, but can be returned by the overseas banks and withdrawn from your account many many weeks after you present them. We suggest you make absolutely clear in your booking terms that you do not accept overpayments and that refunds are only made after final clearance of funds to your bank. Before paying a refund, especially when dealing with a cheque from a foreign bank, get in writing from your bank that the funds have cleared and that there is no chance of it being subsequently discovered to be fraudulent.
Hope this helps. Please be careful.
