Hi folks,
I'm not sure if this topic has already been covered, sorry if it has.

When we were staying in our apartment at the begining of the month we noticed a bad smell coming from our bathroom.
I hate to state the bleeding obvious, but it smells like drains.
I had a quick look around and noticed the sink drain doesn't have a 'U bend' in it.
Obviously the toilet does but if the bath and 'foot washing basin' don't have U bends either, I guess that's where the smell is coming from because there is no water trap between the bathroom and underground drainage system.
Anyone else had this problem and found a way to solve it?
We have tried leaving all the drain plugs in and plugging a 'Glade' smelly room thing into the mains outlet above the sink.
Any advice welcome....................PS I know it's not for washing your feet, I was joking.

Hi Spanish drains do smell unfortunately, however if you take up the metal plate and dismantle it you wioll find that the drain from bath, bidet and sink all flow in to it and this overflows to the drains there is no trap - hence the smell, you can reduce this by wetting the seal and fitting very carefully back. having cleaned it all out.
We live here and hav eadded a plug in air freshener which helps considerably.

Also if you have no Washing machine or dishwasher then you need to block the drains that are there the white plastic things i used a wine cork this sorts smells from them.

Do hold a rat net over the metal plate and wear bicycle clips just in case

hi plumber Paul. If you manage to sort it you probably could fund the cost of another trip over if we all paid you to sort ours out too. It sounds like it's really unpleasant. I wonder how those members who are residents have managed? Tan

Thanks for that Shampernator, I can really sleep easy now. Is this just, and I do say just loosely, a case of putting a ubend in?  As Tanrog says,  PlumberPaul, this could be good for you. Mind you, do you think they sell ubends in Spain?  Sonatigh mentions about the washer/dishwasher subject,  what have others done with the outlet that haven't had dishwashers?

Has anyone had a reason to have their bath panel off yet?
If so, can you share the 'how to' info please.
I am guessing there is no draintrap under there either but have not confirmed it yet due to threat of losing plumbs to Mrs WW if I "make any more bloody mess".

Hi Paul,

Doesn't matter if you have seen any of the plumbing, just being a plumber is good enough for this lot. you'll regret telling us you are a tradesman, (thought that buying a place in Spain meant that you could get away from it all, sorry to disappoint)

Hi paul and welcome to the forum, we are all just a wee bit mad on here and you will get use to us and our weird humour.

hehe
