Hi all,
Thank you Tony for the report, and well done to those of you who have been successful in geting some hard earned money back, it must be such a relief. I can't wait to hear the final outcome of this nightmare.
This question is going off the usual subject but does anybody know the cheapest way to get from Alicante to Benidorm. As we are going out there end of January, we are not sure whether its a holiday or a recce, looking for a tent to live in, as we may not have any money for anything else, thanks to San Jose.
Anyway, if anyone knows of a good way to transfer, please let us know. Thanks.
Best wishes to all
Gill & Keith

Glad to help on this one, no question about it, pack mule is the cheapest and most reliable way to get to Benidorm.
As for staying in a tent, you sound like my sort of folk; I was billeted in a tent for 5 years before being routed by the Nationalists in 1936.

If you cant stand the Mule trip.............i once went on a half decent train journey....very reasonable and comfortable too.
It was probably a hard journey during the Spanish Civil War but it was OK when we went on it.

Hi Jillyg,
Thank you for the thanks and in response to your question . I would try the local bus service as it would probably be the cheapest way of getting there. I have a friend who goes over and just uses the local bus service. It may be worth giving a PM to a couple of the forum members who live in Spain and they might be able to tell you where you can get hold of the time table etc for buses.
All the best
Tony

Hi Gill & Keith
There seems to be a frequent bus service from Alicante airport direct to Benidorm, as every time we stand waiting for our bus to Murcia, we see the Benidorm bus arriving at the next stop and lots of people getting on. It will be your cheapest option, and you can get details online if you go to the Alsa website.
The alternative is to go into Alicante city and get the train, but it will cost more and take a lot longer. The train goes from the sea front, which isn't near the bus station so you need to know Alicante, plus the train station is on the outskirts of Benidorm (we have taken the train along the coast a few times, and have to say that it is a lovely journey) whereas the bus stops in the centre of Benidorm.
It is easy to find the stop, as you come straight out of the airport, cross the road and you will see all the bus stops: Benidorm is clearly marked.
If you plan to come across to Jumilla, drop me a PM. Maybe we can meet up with Auntie Linda, the Laird and Twigit!
Best wishes.
Sue

Hullo, Tony me lad.
Thanks for lending support to an old soldier. By the way, no one told me there was mechanical transport for Benidorm or I would’ve said!
I’ve since checked this with Conchita, next door ,and after she called me a daft old beggar for what I’d told them poor tent people, she told me there’s buses about every twenty minutes if yer stand by the bus stop just across the road from the airfield, the fare, I believe, is 4 pesetas each way.
And talking about yon housing estate, like others, I don’t know if it’ll be built or not but I am erring on the optimistic side because people said Berlin wouldn’t be built again after all the bombing and look what happened over there!
During my many years on this earth, I’ve seen a lot of conflict Yes, even more than you get on this electric telegraph system and there’s no doubting.......

The cheapest option by far AND I am surprised twigit or some one else has not mentioned this would be shank's pony
The bus would be the next cheapest option unfortunately it only runs hourly during holiday periods I think you can catch it 4 times a day at other times the charge is 14 euros return. A taxi will be around 65 euros each way
the train is a good option if you know Alicante & Benidorm it is the way we travelled on our first holiday it used to take around an hour from the seafront in Alicante but they have upgraded the track now it is a very scenic trip and wil cost a bit less than the bus but you do have to get from the aeropuerto, you will need to be fit as the train station is at the top end of Benidorm
You may be best hiring a car try deisel cars they were around 65 euros for the week 2 years ago
When you decide where you are staying pm me I wil give you directions know Benidorm almost as well my home town
