You should be aware that the Spanish Government has introduced an income tax payable by none Spanish nationals based on the assumption that you rent out your property.

As I don't rent out my apartment I think this tax is unfair.

following is the text of a petition I have submitted to the European Parliament, if you agree with me, I urge you to do the same, the URL is at the bottom of the draft.

I also ask you to pass this information on to anyone you may think will find it of interest.

I have therefore placed a petion with the EU Parliment, the trext follows, if you agree with me I ask you to do the same. The URL is at the bottom of the draft.

In January this year (2009) the Spanish Government introduced a new income tax, payable by none Spanish residents, who have property (a holiday home) in Spain. The tax is based in the value of the property, on the assumption that all holiday homes are rented out and therefore provide an income.
It is my belief that the tax is unfair and inequitable, it discriminates against residents of other E.U. member states.
I am fortunate in that I own a holiday home in Spain, I derive no income from the property as in common with people who I know that also own holiday homes. I do not rent out my holiday home.
If the tax was fair it would apply to all owners of holiday home regardless of residential status, if the tax was equitable, there would be allowances claimable against the tax, the tax would also be based on actual income, not an assumed income.
I ask that pressure be put on the Spanish Government to make changes to this tax to make it fairer and more equitable.
