Hire cars

Hi, can anyone offer any advice please?  I have an apt on Jardine 9, and am over in August.  I want to hire a car for a couple of weeks to collect and drop off at Murcia airport.  However, the cost seems to have exploded for July and August - around £600 plus fuel!  Am I going to have to pay this or can I hire locally?  Grateful for any advice.

Not sure I'd want to trust it to luck with one of the local companies unless anyone can give you a secure recommendation.

I've just had a quick look on Travel Supermarket and they have a Peugeot 207 size car for 14 x days in August with Argus for £450.

We are going over the last two weeks in august and are also in Jardin 9, have a look on F&C carhire we have looked and currently £275 for two weeks for a medium size car, not sure what they are like someone else put this website on a previous post.

We went with Travelsupermarket and are paying £176.00 for last two weeks of September (I realise it's a bit cheaper then) for Ford Focus or similar (they state Volkswagen Polo).  This is with Argus/Car Rentals and the rental agent is Dickmanns.    We have to meet and greet them somewhere in Alicante Airport.  We only paid so far a deposit of £30.00 and we pay the balance when we arrive.  This I find a bit worrying as this is what happened with DoyouSpain and we never had a car.  We will just have to find out.

If all this happened about a year ago when we were a bit green around the gills I would have burst into tears and shout at my husband for buying a property in Spain.  Now we and everyone else on this forum takes it in their stride.

I can definately recommend F & C (fcrentacar.com) - they have an office in Camposol (sector A), so if you only want a car for part of the time you could use them - don't know if it is possible, but could try a pick-up at the airport, drop off at camposol, then reverse it at the end of your holiday - certainly worth a look.

They do not have a desk in the airport, but work from the car park, cars are OK, but not top of the range, my main recommendation is based on how good the Ladies in the Camposol office were - I had a couple of problems with my car and they were excellent in getting it sorted!

F& C carhire do allow pick up at the airport and droop off at Camposol. We did this a few years ago as we were picking up a car we had bought a few days after arrival.  We used them several times before we moved out permanently  without problems.

just used F & C for 4 days in July 89 euros, brilliant because some of the others dont want to do 4 days and excellent that I can return to Camposol, just what I needed, waited for confirmation but seems ok so far...

hhmmm, not so good, just contacted me to say no cars available, thought it was too good 2 b true,

maybe they dont want to rent to me as it is short term, or maybe genuinely out of vehicles,

back to square 1 now anyway

Been down to F & C ON Campasol today to try to book a car for a freind  coming over in the next week they tell me no cars available for the next few weeks, they will take your name and put you on a waiting list as they are trying to get hold of more cars.

Not so good as most people want to know if they have a car ?

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all your replies.  I decided to bite the bullett this time and book via carjet just to make sure I had a car - 697 Euro for 15 days plus fuel!!  May need to buy a car and leave it over - but I guess that's another set of problems.  Will post another question about that one I think!
