We were late with our first payment last year but we explained that we had not received the bill as we didn't go to Spain until end of Sept and therefore didn't know about the bill. They let us off the penalties so I'd try that. If you try that though it might be worth taking someone with some Spanish skills if you don't have the lingo as they don't speak any English in the office.

I think they are lenient with first bills as we were very late paying last years and there was no penalty. We didn't have to ask to be let off either. Maybe we were just lucky. This year we just took the bill to the bank and paid it there as they had details from last year.

If youhave not received your bill and are not going to be in Spain fro a while you can email the office and request them to email the bill to you and if you have a Spanish bank account you can then make an internal payment to settle the account
The email address I have used is Mateo Carrasco,
AnaIsabelMateo@prpmalaga.es
and the payment codes are :-
CODIGO SWIFT: UCJAES2M
CODIGO IBAN (FORMATO IMPRESO) ES59 2103 1001 5702 3000 0222
FORMATO ELECTRONICO ES5921031001570230000222
GASTOS: OUR
CUENTA PATRONATO UNICAJA : 2103 1001 57 0230000222.

Hi
Just to follow up and let you know that, when I paid the IBI bill, there was about a 23 euro penalty for late payment. That was paid last week of September.
I'm not sure whether it increases with time, but perhaps someone else knows.

I have been advised, from the Manilva office, that Phase 3 owners do not have IBI bills for this year, any other phase 3 owners out there to confirm this.
Thanks
John

jcl, I think you'll find that it is whoever is the owner as at 1st January in the year is liable for the IBI for that year - eg if you completed on your property after 1st January 2009 and the property was still in the name of Ros y Falcon (or any other owner) on 1st January 2009, they are liable for the IBI tax for 2009.

Pitby - yes this was certainly my understanding and we have owned our apartment since Jan 2008, however during our visit to Spain recently (short break and sort out IBI bill) and the Manilva office we have been categorically informed that we do not have a bill for this year and we should check again next year? Hence my question to any other Phase 3 owners, as the office did mention that Duquesa Phase 3 does not yet have bills.
Thanks John

Hi John
I see what you mean - yes, we didn't have IBI bills for 2007, they were only first issued in 2008, I think, for those in Phase 2. I've heard of some places where they may take a couple of years at least!
