Can anyone identify or recommend a restaurant in or close to Aledo. We have friends who insist they visited Aledo- where there is a statue with outstretched arms, preceded by a line of statues roadside and where they ate in a beautiful traditional Spanish restaurant that they say if called Monteguido's (may have mis spelt that) Whilst some of this information is familiar from what we have been told, we thought Aledo was to be recommended for panoramic 360 deg views and a cafe.

If anyone can give a bit more info I'd be very grateful, as from the friends info the restaurant is worth going to but I have a feeling they are confused with somewhere else they have visited. As I am in the bad books for using this forum and 'shouting my mouth off' (partners words) and embarrassing her before she has even been carried over the threshhold and met her own neighbours (partners words) and that I should desist from using the forum unless I can make positive comments (partners words) I should like to come up with a spectacular venue as a surprise treat for her

Sounds like you are in trouble Tony- although, to be fair, I recall from a very early post of yours that you said your father in law called you ' the quiet man' because you were anything but. So no doubt your partner knows that too and certainly some of those early posts of yours were a bit grumpy. However, you are as entitled to your opinion as anyone else and I noted yesterday you writing that you'd been a bit disappointed when recently visiting CdA (think noisy kids, trespassing neighbours, drunks in the pool bothered you and state of the entrance boulevard, if I remember rightly) and then getting the email about the RPM and A.Gil debacle just as you were to complete- so maybe pre completion nerves were creeping in.

We havent got to Aledo But I have also queried the name of a restaurant in Aledo this week- do you know a couple from Chorley Lancs? But cant recommend a good restaurant there but I expect many forum users could recommend places  close to CdA. But I was wondering if your friends had visited :

'Monte Aledo is just 15 minutes from the thriving town of Totana, 25 minutes from the beautiful sandy beaches of Mazarron and 40 minutes from San Javier Airport.' (www.imaginemurcia.com)

This is a resort not far from CdA- maybe they just ate at a restaurant there, Monte Aledo and Monteguido could be one and the same, at least thats what we were thinking.

Hope you sort it .

PS: there was thread a week or so back 'new thread for positive people'  maybe you could start there.

PPS - the post about the monestary could be the right place- our friends think they may know you

Hi Quietman,

I'm not 100% sure but I think Aledo may be the small town just 1 or 2 minutes past the La Santa Monestary and restaurant. The restaurant and suroundings are lovely. There is also a statue of Christ at the top of the hill (lit up at night) past other monuments of him representing the 12 stations of the cross (crusifiction). Jill & Terry on www.condadodealhamaservices.com were there last week for dinner and have info and photos on their site.

Regards

Iain

Jann, Not quite sure if you were trying to make me feel better or just reminding me of how gobby I can be. But thanks for the Monte Aledo info.

However, Iain's La Santa Monestary and restaurant sounds like it might be the place and I have at least found Aledo on google.

Hopefully the situation will have defrosted a bit by the time we fly out tomorrow.

tony,

for Aledo, head towards totana and follow the signs - it is sign posted from the main motorway to Almeria.  The statute you refer to is actually closer to the monastery  - about 3 mins drive.  aledo is a further 5 mins up the road.

The monastry itself is fantastic.  Its about 30 euros a head including wine for a meal and has great views back down the mountain.

You can also stay for 65euro per room per night - I thought that sounded pretty good and might try it out in due course.

aledo itself is great from a picturesque point of view.  At the top of the town is a church which from outside has amazing views all around.  we only noticed one or two bars - went into one and had a bottle of beer and a glass of wine for 2 euros!!

I hope this helps a bit,

Anthony

Anthony,

Where are the bars in Aledo ? We were there in July and struggled to find anywhere to drink.

Thanks

Phil

Phil,

about the middle of the old town as such, about 300 metres down from the top church there is a bar.  Quite small, looks like a house really from the outside bar a sign or two I think.  It was full of local males, no females, and the barman didn't speak english - what you would expect in Aledo really, and nice to be somewhere totally spanish.

opposite this there is a little square with a kiosk and tables and chairs outside.  They also sell wine and beers.

Anthony
