Progress on the new San Javier road

Hi all, does anybody have any info on progress on the new road? In particular I wonder where one leaves the road as it approaches Sucina and then how one finally approaches Peraleja. And whilst I am at it...does anyone have any photos of the road.

The new RM-1 is complete to Sucina. You will need to take the 1st sign to Sucina then drive through the village and past Upper supermarket as usual. If you stay on the motorway and take the 2nd sign to Sucina this will bring you to the top of the village, it is then possible to take the road to Peraleja and HR, but the first part of it is still a dirt track and not recommended for night driving. 

The truth is stranger than fiction! As you approach Sucina take the second Sucina exit sign. This takes you out at the top of the village where you would have been had you followed the old road to Murcia past the Upper Supermarket. You come to a roundabout signposted left to Hacienda Riquelma. You go over this roundabout to another which sigposts HR straight on. As you enter the roundabout you realise there is, in fact, no exit to HR.

The road coming from the other direction does not in fact meet the new HR road. Some enterprising soul, and I am guessing he is not a Brit cowed as we are by years of socialism and health and safety, has bent back the rail on the roundabout so that you can get into a field which, after a bump or two, takes you to where the road from the other direction ends.

I hear that the farmer who owns the field is holding out for more money before he will let the roads cross the last 100 yards of his land so they can join up. I can not confirm this.

Noel you are mostly correct with what you say.  Apparently the landowner agreed a price with the local council but as work neared his land he sadly died.  His relatives then held out for a higher compensation price which was refused.  I believe that a compulsory purchase order was/ or is being obtained hence the delay.

Unofficialy the road is used. One Riquelme resident tried it and came accross a police car coming the other way on the bumpy bit! Expecting arrest or a fine, it just drove past and ignored him.

So hopefully the last stretch will be completed sometime this year.
