New to Eye on Spain

Has anybody worked out how the waste disposal system works? We have a kind of shaft outside our house which drops to a cavernous interior. Paco and Loli peer into it and say "It is for the waste..." and shuffle off quick. How do you get the waste in and, perhaps more important, how do they get it out again?

We went out to complete last week, and while we were there for a few days, we saw a waste truck actually empty one of the bins. Basically you lift up the flap put your rubbish into the hole in the steel neck that sticks up out of the ground. Then when the truck comes long, it pulls the whole thing out of the ground. It is basically a big steel box that is pulled out of the ground, the truck then opens a trap door in the bottom of the box and all the rubbish then goes into the truck. The waste truck then returns the steel box back into its hole in the ground. Seems a very good system, and a good way to keep the place tidy. Peraleja have certainly not gone for the cheap option of placing lots of bins about the place, like every thing else, they seem to have done it correctly.

this is the normal new system that is being installed all over this area and it allows, rather than the big plastic or metal bins sitting above ground the whole unit has an electric lifting mechanism that lifts the whole platform up to the street level and they then roll the bin to the rubbish truck

Each surface unit is identified by type for re-cyclying, paper, plastic glass etc
