Just received an e-mail from Collados saying it will open 21/5/10 - this is good news as it was around 8th July last year I think. They didn't specify when it will close so I've e-mailed them again. I'll update the thread if/when I get a reply.
Regards, Viv

The Beach Club was opened at the weekend ie 1st may for a private function and will be open only at weekends until the beginning of the season as I understand, which for the Spanish usually means June 1st.
I spoke to the owner of Collados who runs the Beach Club and restaurant so I am not sure when the transport starts but this can be checked with Calidona rentals office or the pro shop and usually is in June when the ferry begins.

Whilst I realise that the Beach Club restaurant is open to the public, it would appear from the Collados website that all the facilities are open to anyone who turns up. I was under the impression that it was Roda Golf Beach Resort and the Collados group ran the catering facilities, but if you look at their website Roda isn't mentioned at all. We were led to believe that this was an 'exclusive' beach resort for Roda owners and their guests. It seems to be another facility we owners have paid for that is now open to the general public. www.colladosbeach.com

Hi,
We're just back from Roda and finally made it out to the Beach Club on 24th June - there was no transport in place at that stage but I was told by the rentals office that it would "probably" start mid July, but they couldn't confirm a specific date. The fee last year was €12 (which included €8 return ferry). The contact no. for reservations is 968 173 822 or you can call in to the rentals office just outside the main gate at Roda.
I would recommend using the Roda transport if it's available as it's not that easy to get to the club when you arrive at La Manga. I had phoned the rental office to ask how to get from the port to the club - I was told to exit the port, turn left and walk for about 7 minutes! or we could pick up a taxi at the port! If only it were that simple!
We were wandering round the port at La manga asking for directions to the Beach Club and looking for a taxi.....for over 1 hour! Not pleasant in the heat! There were no taxis anywhere near the port and we were told by locals that we could phone a taxi but they would have to come from the other end of La Manga so they would be very expensive. No-one seemed to know of the Club...now known as Collados Beach Club. Eventually a local bar owner recognised the club from the brochure we had with us and he directed us to the nearest bus stop and told us that the buses run every 30 mins up and down La manga strip. The bus journey is about 5-10 mins but the bus terminates 5-10 mins walk from the Club so off we set again on foot, in the heat, with some very fed up kids at this stage.
We had a very pleasant visit once we got there but I would think twice about taking the trek again if there was no bus organised from the port to the club!
Beware of Roda directions!
Viv

We have just returned from a week at Roda with some friends. We thought we would take them to the Beach Club for the day so went to the Pro Shop to book the transport as we had done in previous years. They told us that we had to book at the restaurant. When we went there they knew nothing about transport but gave us the number of the beach club to book a table in the restaurant there. We then went to the office at the entrance to the resort and they thought, but didn't know for certain, that the bus may start again on 16 July. I think Roda Golf and Beach Resort should now be renamed just Roda Golf as it would appear that the Beach Club, now called Callados Beach Club, is more for use by people on La Manga.

does anyone actually know who owns the beach club?
there seems to be some confusion this year reagrding it.
i was under the impression that if you purchased a property on roda then you would have a right to use the club?
can roda just sell it off or would that be breaking some kind on comitment?

Talk about confused! We have just had a report from some clients who went to the Pro shop to book a day out at hte Beach Club. They were told to go to the Restaurant at the Club House to do this. So, they went into the restaurant who said they knew nothing about provided transport out to the Club but gave them directions to get there.
Our clients made their way by public transport (not sure if they used the ferry) to the Beach Club only to find it closed with lots of workmen. This was the week before last!
Now, I am another Roda owner who wants to know what is going on as think we have been given the run around here.

As Corvera "Golf & Country Club" doesn't have a Country Club (or a Golf Club for that matter - just a course) it's hardly surprising if Roda "Golf & Beach" no longer has the Beach. This seems to be the Calidona way of operating.

Beach Club is already open and we visited it twice last week. We drove and took AP7 towards Cartajena and turned off to La Manga, over the bridge that opens to let tall ships cross from Mar Manor to Med and after further 5km or so we arrived at Beach Club. It took about 50minutes to reach there and I think we used approx €22 worth of petrol (small car, return journey). So if you are more than 2 people, driving is cheaper and also give you flexibility to leave/return at your own pace. It is seemingly a long journey and quite slow through La Manga but we find it quite acceptable for us. We did the similar journeys in 2009 as well. The Club is open until 30th September.
We have seen a large coach hanging around phase 3, which I believe it takes people to San Javier for the ferry journey to La Manga and then you have another coach that takes you to the Beach Club at the other end.
Enjoy, we did.
Arun.

We have just got back from Roda and went to the beach club by car on Wednesday - although it took an hour to get there it was worth it - absolutely stunning and we were relieved to find that the food was so much better than last year - we were quite happy to pay a little extra for fab food and fab service. Collados have really made an effort and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as did our guests. And the children loved walking out to the little island - a fab day. If you drive then I recommend you get there before 12.30 to beat the coach and choose your preferred sunbeds!

The following is on the Corvera Forum. Surely Calidona have not stooped to the level suggested?
Surely it is a wind up!
"We own at Corvera and heard we could use the Roda Beach Club as Calidona Customers, but when we asked in the office at Corvera mid- August we were told by them that the Beach had been sold off and that it was now open to the general public at around €10 per day?
We have not been able to verify this, I'm afraid."

The Beach Club is being managed by Collados (the Spanish Hospitality group who are running the Clubhouse In Roda) and has not been sold off.
It is open to the general public with beds on the beach available to rent but not around the pool which is exclusively for the use of Roda owners and their guests.
We have been on several occasions in the last month both using the supplied transport and by car, and it is fantastic this year as the catering both in the restaurant and at the pool are working well with prices to suit all budgets and kids catered for.
It is definitely worth a day out but if you are not a Roda owner you will have to pay for towel hire, bed rental etc. If you are a Roda owner you will be issued with an arm band which identifies you to the staff for all of the various services which are free of charge to Roda owners.
I hope that this is helpful.
Moira
