Corvera Airport

Simply Networking are reporting that the EU has agree that the loan for Corvera Airport was legal and so now the building of the airport can go ahead. Because there's been such a long delay whilst Brussels pondered this point there isnt a definate date for the opening date of the airport, but work is to restart asap and they are hoping to open in the latter part of 2011

2015 is how i read it ......... albeit my PW glossy brochure clearly says 2006

Having re read it I can see that it says that it doesnt see the opening before the end of next year.

At least it's back on again.  Any investment of this magnitude can only be good for the region.   Not sure if we need it or not, but that's not our problem.  Spring 2012 could be realistic....?

Its great news that it is going ahead no matter what the time scale.  I would hope for Summer 2012...may coincide with european economies getting back to normal.

Hopefully there's room for all and I think its good news for the area especially if they keep it relatively modest size wise, until world finances improve. I know San Javier was supposed to have a  further runway opening this year that would mean they could open up their civilian arrivals and departures- but after reading that that had been agreed I haven't seen any more about that. Alicante is having a huge expansion programme already which I imagine was influenced by Polaris Worlds original plans ( and other regional development) as there were 15,000 properties anticipated just for Condado in their 10 year plan.

I wonder if the Paramount rumour will now resurface as I felt that if there was really any truth in the possibility of a theme park then it was scuppered almost immediately when the news broke that the EU was looking at the airport funding ? This will probably mean good news though in relation to tourism and afterall Lorca is to have a theme park.
