Hi
Unless you intend buying a lot of stuff and therefore need to drive why don't you consider the train. You can park FOC in Alhama and there is a very good train service which takes about half an houe. It only costs a few euros and beats the traffic which, when we were there seem quite hectic when you are in the centre.

I always drive, its dead straightforward. Head north to the MU602 and turn left towards Alhama. Once on the motorway you will see signs for Murcia, then as you get closer to Murcia, you come off the motorway at "Murcia Centro".
As soon as you come off the motorway, you are right in the city centre. I always use the first car park off the motorway, you dont hit any city centre traffic. The car park is underground and not expensive... you are then right in the centre of Murcia.
It takes me less than 30 minutes! Dont see the point of driving into one town, parking up and then waiting for a train into Murcia, far quicker to drive straight to Murcia.

If you drive you wouldn't be able to sample the delights of all the bars dotted around the centre and on the square outside the Cathedral and what could be better than a long leisurely lunch outside the Cathedral and the coffee shop on the end nearest the Cathedral does the most amazing things with chocolate so definately worth a visit!!

Carla, I agree there are great bars to sample in Murcia, but how do you get there without using a car. Have you priced up a Taxi?
If you get the train from Alhama, you stil have to drive to and from Alhama? So you still couldnt drink?

So there is your answer Redpaul.
42.7 Euros (2 x 15 Euro taxi plus train fair) and aprox 45 minutes each way(if your timing is good with the trains) on the train/taxi
or
9 Euros (4 parking and maybe 5 in fuel) and 30 minutes each way in your car.
Second option is quicker and cheaper ( I would say easier, some may disagree!), First option would allow you to drink? But remember if there is more than 1 of you then you will have to add 12.70 euro extra per adult in train fairs.!

I am sure we only paid 3.50 or 4.50 return an adult when we went in April. Found a lovely place to have a large beer that turned out to be a litre......only just managed to pick the glass up :)

It is 3.50 return and 30 min stress free journey.
Murcia is a nightmare to drive round if you aren't used to it, parking very expensive (no chance to park on street).
Have done both and no chance of me driving there again unless I have to.
