I dont know about you, but I am getting a bit fed up of Airlines trying to rip us off at every turn. I usually use Jet2.com, who used to be cheap but are not anymore. As we booked late we paid £240 each for 3 flights an extortionate total of £720. Due to the flood on Condado on tueday we missed our flight back to Manchester, through no fault of our own. Being naive, I thought that as Jet2 had already had our money so they had not missed out on anything they would be understanding and try to help long standing customers to get home. No such thing. The next flight to Manchester was the day after and they wanted 300 euros each, yes 900euros for a one way flight! When I asked for an explanation I was told that the flight was nearly full. I said yes, but are we sittng on someones knee or are there empty seats? I could not seem to get her to understand that we had already paid to get home, the next flight had empty seats and instead of charging us just a nominal fee as loyal customers, they preferred to try to rip us off. In the end they got us on a flight to Leeds/Bradford for 600 euros, plus a £100 taxi to Manchester airport to collect my car. They would not even give me the loyalty points for the new flights as I had not booked them on line. Needless to say, I will endeavor not to use them again and A letter is winging its way to customer service, but I have the feeling that they are all the same. Whatever happened to customer is King?

Hi Dakey

I agree with you, however that’s why the cost is often cheap in the first place but if anything happens you pay again and if its last minuet heavily.

Just wondering do you have travel insurance and if so does it cover you for unavoidable delayed arrival at the airport, some do.

Not the case with Easy Jet we missed our flights last year but easy jet only charged us 50euros per person. I was expecting to have to pay for the flight.

Cheers Simon

Phil,

I take your point if we had got cheap flights in the first place but we paid £240 each, which is top dollar. I expected to pay something like Simon Jackson, about 50 euros each. not 300 euros each! they then thought they were doing us a favour at 200 euros each to leeds/bradford.

Look at the situation logically, The flight we missed through no fault of our own took off with 3 empty seats, but they lost nothing as we had payed for those seats. The flight they offered us at 300 euros each would have took off with 3 empty seats as we declined that scandalous rip off, so they made nothing on those empty seats. They should offer those seats at rock bottom to loyal customers who were late through no fault of their own. That is my point, trying to extort money from loyal customers, in my opinion is despicable and if I can help it I will not be using them again.

Cheers Dakey

Unfortunately the more desperate you are for tickets the more the airlines can and will charge you.  Ryanair would be the same.  I know someone who was late because the "Ryanair" bus to their "Paris" airport was delayed significantly.  Had to buy new tickets for next flight at top dollar.

Although I have had a pleasant experience on BMI where we were just put on the next flight after being delayed in airport queues.

Hi Dakey

Again I agree with you, my comment was a general observation about budget airlines not intended as specific to your situation. I also agree with other comments made that if they are feeling charitable they sometimes just transfer you to a different flight at little or no cost, not herd of that happening often though.

Regards

Phil
