Without trying to be a suckup if you like because of what we do unfortunately stories like this do happen and it does give the profession a bad name. On one of the Torre boards a couple had a similar problem when they turned up for their holiday and I agree that they dont need to give the keyholder details of when they arrive, in fact turning up out of the blue when you know your property should be available keeps agencies on their toes.

Checking their legal is obviously a way about the legitimacy of the business and also checking if they have adequate PL insurance as many companies are now refusing to cover key holding.

I can understand people want these named and shamed, it certainly helps to weed out the unscrupulous businesses, but I would urge caution and more so for EOS than anything as there have been cases where site owners have got into trouble for slanderous remarks made about an individual or company without 100% evidence - not saying the OP is telling fibs here but it would be a case of one mans word against another if you know what I mean. Threats aside but using someones property for personal gain is bad enough on its own.

I dont believe I was being negative in my earlier post, sceptical yes. It would be very easy to use an open forum to stir up bad feeling about someone without any genuine reason other than wanting to put them out of business and so I urged caution about writing a name on the forum. I felt there were a number of suggestive points in jackinbox's posts that could indicate to people who he was talking about and I dont feel that's the right thing to do on an open forum when that person hasn't got the opportunity to defend themselves or deny the allegations. Unfortunately I have long heard there is disquiet amongst the keyholders on CdA and this would be just one way of discrediting someone.

Anyone who uses a keyholder whether legit or not has to be watching the utility bills as they are the best way of checking that the apartment isn't being used when they dont have official renters. That goes for keyholders using your apartment to do everyone's washing in as much as letting people stay in it unofficially.

But, I do feel this story has some debatable details in however if there is any truth that someone has been threatened then the Police, ML and the Presidents are the way forward not a neighbour 'going to speak ' to the keyholder. Changing the locks is a good move- not sure how thats been managed in these circs as the keyholder holds the spare key needed to let the locksmith in? If the 65 year old gentleman has felt confident to cancel the arrangement with his keyholder and return to change his own locks he's less intimidated than the post suggested. But should still go to the Police otherwise we could all have a problem.

This poor guy has had a nightmare with his previous keyholder & I think he's doing the exactly the right thing!

1) Warning everyone to check their holiday homes - check the bills, turn up unexpected from time to time, just make sure the keyholders are not doing anything they shouldn't.

We have a few neighbours in our block who also keep an eye on our apartment when there at Condado and would report back if there was any movement.

2) Sacking the keyholder and moving to someone more trustworthy.

3) Not naming & shaming on a public forum and not going to the Police or any official body.

It's a personnel decision and it's hard to say what you'd do unless you were unfortunate enough to be in the situation, but I agree with Jackinbox. An unoccupied apartment in Spain has got to be an easy target for retribution. It's always difficult to know what to do when you've been wronged, obviously official action would be warranted but most people would rather just move on and not keep looking over their shoulder or worrying about their apartment 1000s of miles away. I would however name and shame to friends, face to face or private e-mail but not on the public forum in full view of everyone.

It seems a lot of posts get turned upside down and every word questioned. Let's give people a break, we are all here for each other (Except this keyholder).

I agree with Tonys last comment, Jack in the Box hasnt given anyone the heads up all he or she has done is to start a rumour without providing any evidence. If my key holder done anything like this id be on all the forums and name them, and the only snapping of legs would be theres.

Quietman you are right.  Jackinabox has provided 'suggestions' as to who these people are.  I suggested they were named and shamed and agree that a few PM's would be a better idea than posting onto the public forum.  If these people are used by lots on CDA then they won't be the only one's who's apartment has been used.  Jackinabox, hope you get to sort these people out for your friend as there behaviour towards an elderly man is despicable.  However i do agree that you should involve the authorities and that ML should be your first port of call.  Good Luck and let us all know of any further developments.

Hi All,

Jackinthebox has made a few or was it 1 posting.   Very clever to have left a red herring in the name.

Under Spanish law a crime has been commited, and like here in the uk the victim does not need to go to the police for them to act.  Threats of violence and arson are serious enough to carry custodial sentences.  Therefore when this information gets to the police they will be able to trace the IP address (Techie stuff) of the necessary people on here.  Do hope they were not "Mistaken" in their information.

I for one will not be suckered any further into what I believe is a false story.  One that I personally think is over the top and contributes to the reason many members on here have left, or just merely observe without contributing.

For the rest of you its a free and democratic country - Believe what you wish.  The truth will out in the end.

As they saying goes.  I'm out.  I will not look at this thread again as I do not wish to feed anymore those who start malicious threads.

Frank
