A very interesting read for those taking kids to Spain

Wendy you were right to look at international schools for your older child... have you decided what to do yet?

p.s a bit extra

The Benefits of Moving your Children Abroad

Spanish School is Good For Your Kids!

Recent studies have shown there are significant long term benefits to moving your child abroad, particularly when they are very young. Generally speaking, the younger your children are the easier it will be for them to adapt to their new lifestyle, understand Spanish methods of teaching, and pick up the language and the accent. Some children adapt immediately to new surroundings while others may take slightly longer, and the first few weeks will probably be tough.

Researchers from University College London conducted a study in 2004 which revealed that children who had learnt a second language had a significantly higher proportion of grey matter (the area of the brain which processes information) than those who had not. A subsequent study showed that children who had lived abroad had higher levels of resilience, a better understanding of the world and a more compassionate approach to people of different ethnicities. In simple terms, learning a second language and living abroad can increase both the intelligence and social capacity of your child.

The human brain acts like a sponge during the formative years and the capacity for learning is highest before the child reaches four years of age. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself taking language lessons from your kids!  Psychologists have found that the best age to move a child is either before the age of two or between the ages of six and eight.  Between three and six children seem to suffer a great deal of homesickness and after the age of eight they tend to struggle far more with the language barrier.

Hi Wendy

Did you get my PM about school? i thought it might help you in making a decision.

The school opens beginning of Sept to do paperwork and stuff. Are you going to visit it and have a look around or will you have returned to the uk by then?

Donna i think i sent you that PM as well so hope you both got it. My emails have been a bit of a nightmare lately. My poor little pc is getting a little on the fragile side!!

For Morby family,..........

No school uniform but you have to buy the books and other things which you will be given a list at the start of each school year! I warn you now the books are not cheap. I think if you average between 150 and 200 euros per child per year then it would be fairly realistic.
